Brignone risks everything. Fede takes a gamble in third place. The Cup is closer
La Thuile, Goggia second in the first superG. The Aosta Valley native: "I wanted to overdo it". In the standings, her advantage over Gut-Behrami increases further, and today she repeats (11).

Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone celebrate their placing behind German Aicher in the super-G in La Thuile
Sofia Goggia second e Federico Brignone Third. Also due to a snow cover that was not in perfect conditions yesterday, in Super G of La Thuile, the two Italians finished behind the German Aicher, but if outside everyone is still celebrating the fact that in the rankings of the World Cup the gap between Brignone and the Swiss Gut-Behram has widened, "Fede" is not at all happy with how things went.
"Who cares about the points - explains the skier from La Salle - maybe I wanted to overdo it and this led me to make mistakes that I paid dearly for. I wanted to arrive first in front of my people, but I didn't succeed. It's a track that doesn't give you confidence, where many athletes struggle, it's probably the race in which I was least able to do what I had in mind".
Despite the efforts of the organizers, the treacherous snow he shuffled the cards and to this must be added the long interruption due to an illness that occurred to a track worker who required the intervention of the air rescue.
"We wish him the best of luck - Goggia is speaking -. I think I had a great race. We knew from the reconnaissance that we would find a mixed-sea track. And so it was. The organizers were very good at allowing us to compete. Sometimes you have to be grateful to get to the end. We will go all-in in America, but we will think about the descent later. There was no point in taking excessive risks today".
With third place in the super-G in front of her home crowd, the Aosta Valley carabiniere is first with 1354 points, 332 more than Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami, fourth yesterday at eight hundredths of a second from Brignone. At the end of the season there is today's super-G and then three races (the Italian and Swiss are not qualified for the special slalom race) in the World Cup finals in Sun Valley (United States) next week. If at the end of today's race "Fede" were to have a lead of 301 points over her pursuer, the crystal ball would already be in her hands and in theory it would not even be necessary to go to the starting gate of the downhill, super-G and giant of the finals.
"Gut-Behrami is a very strong athlete - concludes Brignone - and maybe this year I will have to finish behind her in the super-G. In any case, I won't make any calculations until the last race of the season: I will go forward race by race trying to do my best".
Today (11am live on Rai Due and Eurosport) a second SuperG race will take place in La Thuile. This race is the recovery of the race cancelled in Saint Moritz last December.
