Diaz triple jump champion, from Livorno to the top of Europe

The Cuban naturalized Italian competes for Libertas Unicusano. “Finally I can sing the anthem”

Apeldoorn (Netherlands), 8 March 2025 – Great Italy in the triple jump at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. The Italian Andy Díaz Hernández won the gold medal by jumping 17,71 meters, while Andrea Dallavalle took bronze in 17,19 meters. Silver went to the German Max Hess (17,43 meters).

The Cuban naturalized Italian Diaz, Olympic bronze, is Livorno by adoption: in fact, he competes for Libertas Unicusano Livorno. And Fidal Toscana also paid homage to the great success in the Netherlands.

“It was difficult but fun, I adjusted my run-up and my anxiety and I managed to make the right jump – Diaz said with the medal around his neck – 'I am here' is the title I want to give to this medal. My dream was to sing Mameli's anthem and the day has come, I'm very excited, the time has come to sing the anthem”.
