Venice, February 7, 2025 - Federica Pellegrini officially enters the Swimming Hall of Fame. "He is the only male or female swimmer - we read in the motivation - to have won eight medals in a row in the same specialty, the 200 meters freestyle, at the world championships. It is also the first Italian Olympic champion of swimming and the only Italian swimmer to have set multiple world records in more than one event. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (held in 2021, ed.), she became the first swimmer to qualify for five consecutive Olympic finals in the same event, the 200 meters freestyle." These are the reasons for theInternational Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF), announcing the ceremony during the 60th anniversary of the award, which will take place in Singapore, in conjunction with the World Championships swimming, Monday 28 July at the Park Royal Collection, Marina Bay.
The words of Federica Pellegrini
"I am honored and flattered of this prestigious recognition - the words of Federica Pellegrini, wife of the Pesaro coach Matteo Giunta and mom of the little one Matilda, on the sidelines of an event at the University of Verona -. I am happy to become part of the Temple of swimming history and to meet many great Italian athletes and especially my teacher Alberto Castagnetti". An important recognition for the “Divine” after a year also marked by the success at “Dancing with the Stars”.
Luca Zaia's comment
“A career that has lasted over three decades, racking up record after record, medal after medal, falling and getting up again with the strength of a tiger - commented Pellegrini on the recognition she received President Luca Zaia -. Demonstrating to everyone, including young people, that the best victory comes after defeat, always putting heart and soul, effort and sacrifice, and this is true in sport as in life. Yet another recognition arrives today for our Federica Pellegrini, Venetian adopted by Verona, who enters fully into the International Swimming Hall of Fame. She is the second Italian in aquatic sports to achieve this; before her only the Paduan Novella Calligaris. Another Venetian. No words needed, there is only so much, so much pride”.
