Nanjing, March 23, 2025 – Mattia Furlani conquered the gold medal in long jump at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China. The 20-year-old Roman athlete won with a measure of 8,30 meters, obtained on the second jump after a null. On the Nanjing Cube platform, the Fiamme Oro representative played an excellent race, coming close to his national record by just seven centimeters. With a perfect takeoff axis – he left only 2,5 centimeters – and with a very fast entry speed (38,30 kilometers), Furlani landed with three and a half steps in the air on the length that earned him first place on the podium.

Silver went to the Jamaican Wayne Pinnock with 8,29, which on the fourth jump gave the Italian the shivers for that centimeter less. Furlani however immediately replied with an 8,28, giving away a good 16,1 centimeters on serve. The bronze was instead awarded to the Australian Liam Adcock with 8,28.

Furlans, already Olympic bronze in Paris 2024, had won the indoor world silver medal last year and the European silver medal two weeks ago, also indoors.

Shot of the weight

Bitter taste in the mouth for Leonardo Fabbri, fourth in the shot put with 21,36. In the last round the Italian was overtaken by the American Roger Steen who threw 21,62. Gold went to New Zealander Tom Walsh, two-time indoor world champion (2016 and 2018), capable of 21,65 on his first throw. Bronze went to another American, Adrian Piperi (21,48).
