Federica Pellegrini officially enters the Swimming Hall of Fame and the motivation for this entry leaves no doubts as to how much 'La Divina' is a legend not only in his discipline, but in the entire varied world of international sport. "He is the only swimmer - we read in the note from the "International Swimming Hall of Fame -, male or female, to have won eight medals in a row in the same specialty, the 200 meters freestyle, at world championships. She is also the first Italian Olympic swimming champion and the only Italian swimmer to have set more world records in more than one event. Ai Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (contested in 2021), she became the first swimmer to qualify for five consecutive Olympic finals in the same event, the 200-meter freestyle.
The ceremony in which Pellegrini (pictured) will receive the award will take place on Monday 28 July in Singapore in conjunction with the World Swimming Championships. Upon receiving the news, the athlete from Mirano who hung up her swimming cap and swimsuit in November 2021 did not hide a hint of emotion: "I am honored and flattered by this prestigious recognition. I am happy to become part of the temple of swimming history and to find so many great Italian athletes and above all my coach Alberto Castagnetti".
