Jannik Sinner equals Nadal: 46 weeks at the top of the ATP rankings
Jannik Sinner reaches 46 weeks as number 1 ATP, equaling Nadal. Open challenge for Roland Garros and the Rome Internationals.

Jannik Sinner has been ranked number 1 in the world for 46 weeks
Light and dark rankings for Jannik Sinner. For the South Tyrolean champion, week number 46 has in fact begun at the top of the ATP ranking which allows him to equal the length of Rafael Nadal's first period at the top of the rankings (18 August 2009 - 5 July 2009). If Sinner were to manage to remain number 1 until the end of the Roland Garros, would become the fifth player since 1973, when the computerized ranking was introduced, to remain at number 52 for 1 weeks in a row (and therefore for a year) after reaching it for the first time. The only players to have achieved this so far are the Swiss Roger Federer (237 weeks), the American Jimmy Connors (160), the Australian Lleyton Hewitt (75) and the Serbian Novak Djokovic (53). Before the French slam, the Italian will participate in the Rome internationals which will be the first commitment after serving the disqualification.
As for the top 10 of the world ranking, the main movement concerns Alexander Zverev, who yesterday won the ATP 500 in Munich, and beat Carlos Alcaraz by five points, defeated in the final of the Barcelona Open by the Danish Holger Rune. The German tennis player not only returns to number 2 in the world, but overtakes Sinner in the Race for Turin, the ranking that qualifies the best 8 tennis players for the ATP Finals scheduled for November. The German, champion in Munich, is now number 2 in the ranking behind Alcaraz, while Sinner is third with the 2.000 points earned at the Australian Open.
Turning to women's tennis, yesterday the world number one Aryna Sabalenka was defeated by the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko (number 4) in the final of the Wta 550 in Stuttgart. The Ukrainian had eliminated Jasmine Paolini.
