The 24th edition of the Mezzalama Trophy will be held today on Monte Rosa, with 320 teams competing despite the weather risk.
The 24th edition of the Mezzalama Trophy, the classic spring pair race intended to award the world long distance titles. The day of stoppage of sport applied by CONI for the Pope's funeral, will experience an exception with the event on Monte Rosa, confirmed due to the risk of worsening weather forecast for tomorrow. The list of participants in the Glacier Marathon has reached the record quota of 320 teams representing 18 nations, the start is set for 5.30 from Breuil Cervinia. Among the favourites for the men's victory will be the French Xavier Gachet and William Bon Mardion and, in the women's field, their compatriots Axelle Mollaret and Emily Harrop. In the Italian field, the pair formed by Davide Magnini from Trentino and the home team owner Matteo Eydallin will aim for the top step of the podium, but there is also great expectation for the Valtellina duo Michele Boscacci and Robert Antonioli, as well as Giulia Compagnoni among the women with Ilaria Veronese. The race winds through one of the most spectacular scenery in the Alps, with the legendary peaks of Castore (4.226 m) and Naso del Lyskamm (4.272 m), up to the finish line located in Gressoney-La-Trinité for a total of 45 kilometers of the route with 3.272 meters of positive altitude difference.
