Star Fleet Championship 2025

Viareggio, 20 February 2025 - With the last two races held in the waters of Viareggio, the 2025 edition of the Star Fleet Championship, a traditional event divided into four stages, well organized by the Società Velica Viareggina on behalf of the FIV.

The registrations for this event were open to all Stars but, as per the Announcement, the ranking to decree the Fleet Champions only concerned the crews of the Fleets of Viareggio, Pearl of Versilia and Forte dei Marmi. And so, the FD 1980 Olympian Paul Nazzaro (Life Member Flotta Bracciano) with the expert at the bow Paul Cisbani (Ita 8527 Dafne; 9 points, 2,2,5, their partial scores) won the overall classification victory but not the title. On the podium, awarded by their respective Fleet Captains, the standard-bearers of SVV climbed Marco Viti and Alessandro Cattaneo (Forte dei Marmi Fleet, Ita 8516 Gemmasofia, 12 points; 5,3,4 the partial scores), the crew composed of the La Spezia native, ex Soling, Graziano Bonanno and Giovanni Giorguli (Pearl Fleet of Versilia, SVV, Ita 8569, Machiavelli, 15 points; 4,8,3) and the mythical Ennio Buonomo - the CEO of Codecasa who among other things took part in two editions of the America's Cup,- with at the bow Marco Esposito (Flotta Perla della Versilia, SVV, Ita 8344 Tambu, 17 points; 7,4,6). On the first day (last January 12th) it was possible to run only one race characterized by wind of 7 knots, calm sea, clear sky and temperature of 10°. The victory went to the home crew formed by Giorgio Gallo and Alberto Mugnaini (Ita 8155 Petronilla, Pearl Fleet of Versilia) who had imposed themselves on Nazzaro-Cisbani and on Maurizio Muracchioli and Manlio Corsi (Ita 8497 Stellore). The adverse marine weather conditions had unfortunately forced the president of the CdR Silvio Dell'Innocenti to cancel the next two stages scheduled for January 26 and February 2, respectively. Everything went smoothly, however, on the fourth and final Sunday of the calendar, when about fifteen combative crews completed two races with winds of around 5 knots, calm seas and clear skies. Double win of the day for Gianpiero Poggi and the veteran starista Davide Mugnaini (Ita 8578 Seven Stars, Flotta PdV) who preceded Nazzaro-Cisbani and Viti -Cattaneo in the first race and Vincenzo Rocco with Claudio Valerio Parboni (Ita 7032 Utopia) and Bonanno-Giorguli in the final race.

The next event organized by the association chaired by Paolo Insom in collaboration with the Club Nautico Versilia, and scheduled in the regatta field considered optimal by the Class on which the best sailors of all time compete, is the traditional Burlamacco Trophy, classic event reserved for the Star Class but also open to Finns, scheduled for the weekend of 1 2 and March with the first race scheduled for 12 noon on Saturday. The President of the CdR will be Silvio Dell'Innocenti. The 2024 Burlamacco Trophy was won by the crew of the Forte dei Marmi Fleet formed by Marco Viti and Alessandro Cattaneo (Ita 8516 Gemmasofia, CVF, 3,2 partial scores) who had anticipated (ex aequo at 5 points) Paolo Nazzaro with Paolo Cisbani and Antonio Balderi with Amerigo Anguillesi (Ita 8206 Pelocaldo, SVV, Flotta Perla della Versilia, 7 points; 6,1). With the same score (7 points) but outside the podium, the winners of the opening race Giampiero Poggi and Davide Mugnaini on Ita 8578 Seven Stars (PdV Fleet, Cnv, 1,6 partial scores). The Società Velica Viareggina is also working this year to promote and relaunch the Star especially among sailors under 30 who want to try their hand at a highly technical, elegant and timeless Class, becoming part of a Fleet of authentic sailing legends. The initiative aims to make Viareggio - which already hosts one of the most important Star Fleets in the world, second only in number of Stars to the Miami Fleet in Florida - the point of reference (the only hub in Italy) for the Under 30s: to involve young people in the wonderful world of the Star class, the SVV offers exclusive invitations, special discounts, concessions, boats available and many initiatives.
