The waltz of the players has not yet begun but that of the managers is taking its first steps and today one of the names that emerges with insistence is that of Marco Sambugaro. The red and white sports director, in Pistoia since 2019, has worked miracles in these six years, proving to be a great professional. With limited budgets, he managed to set up competitive teams until the apotheosis reached in the 2023 season, first with the promotion to the top division and continued with a championship in Serie A that makes your eyes shine: sixth final place, play off and Final Eight of the Italian Cup.

It is therefore normal that teams want to grab his services and in the front row there is Reggio Emilia (ironically, tomorrow's opponent of Estra) which, as reported by Resto del Carlino, is definitely aiming for Sambugaro as the next sporting director in place of Claudio Coldebella, who would have given his favorable opinion on the arrival of the red and white sports director. Needless to say, the fans' hope is to continue to see Marco Sambugaro firmly in his place within the club, leveraging the words expressed towards president David and his acclaimed attachment to the city. Permanence is possible, but much will depend on the attractiveness of the offers from others.

It must also be said that the future of the sports director goes hand in hand with that of Pistoia Basket, because as captain Gianluca Della Rosa clearly said "Before making a decision I want to understand what the future of Sambugaro will be". Clear and unequivocal words that make it clear that the fate of the team group will also depend to some extent on whether or not the director stays. The club must therefore speed up the process and put its intentions and projects in writing, demonstrating seriousness and the will to truly carry forward a project that has solid foundations and is long-lasting. The prospect of a transition year may not be enough to keep him.
