Virtus Bologna aims for the top spot thanks to a favorable schedule. The number of spectators at the Segafredo Arena is also important.
Along the road that could lead it to first place, at the end of the regular season, the Virtus finds an ally as important as it is casual. What is this ally? It is the calendar. As Massimo Zanetti said, announcing the reconfirmation of Ivanovic, the path of the black and whites is not impossible. Given that Virtus is the master of its own destiny – with three victories in three games it would be certain of the top spot –, two successes in the last three days could also be enough.
The standings, for the moment, speak clearly: five teams in four points. Virtus and Trapani at 40 (Black V ahead for having won the direct clash, at the season debut, in Sicily), Trento and Brescia at 38 and Olimpia Milano at 36.
Trapani has a tricky schedule: after the away game in Naples, they will host Olimpia Milano and then close at the Segafredo Arena. Trento will play at home with Sassari and Reggio Emilia, before going to Naples. Brescia has Reggio Emilia, Sassari on the road and then Treviso at home. While Milan will have to play away with Tortona and Trapani, before closing at the Forum with Scafati.
Virtus, on the other hand, Varese and Trapani at home, with the interlude of Scafati. Bologna at this point believes in the primacy and Dusko Ivanovic continues to work in the gym. Yesterday and today at Porelli, a day of relaxation tomorrow and then off to the long sprint. In playoff, as is known, will be played every two days and, for this reason, it becomes important to have not only a quality team, but also a particularly long roster. Given that no one has as many players as Milan, Virtus must quickly think about Justin Holiday. Who, at least in Bologna, has not been a phenomenon, but would still be an element to rely on in case of a cold or fever attack of some teammate.
The impression, however, is that in the end Justin will pack his bags and Virtus will remain with the group that, after some empty outings, has reunited, rediscovering the energy and determination of the best days.
At the end of May, as is known, the conclusions of theEuroleague and Virtus will understand what its destiny will be, at least in the Old Continent. In the meantime, however, there are data to reflect on and which concern the average number of audience and the ability to fill the home system.
In terms of attendance, Virtus is in thirteenth place with an average of 7.792 spectators. Milan is better, two places higher, with 9.095 units. If we look at another parameter, however, Virtus would be virtually in the play in with 85 percent of the facility sold, which is worth ninth place.
Further behind, but in this case worse, is Olimpia, fourteenth. With 72 percent of the Forum used, much less than Segafredo Arena.
There remains doubt about the validity of these parameters or rather limits that everyone would be required to demonstrate.
Monaco, which has a stellar team – breathtaking scenery also linked to Monte Carlo – and a jewel of a arena, still doesn't reach an average attendance of four thousand.
Even in our A2, not to go too far, there would certainly be a greater following.
