Call it passion, if you like. Or even enthusiasm. One day after the end of the regular season and Virtus is the master of its own destiny.
By beating Trapani (Sunday, 18,15:XNUMX p.m., at the Segafredo Arena) Virtus will close the regular season in first place, with all the benefits that this entails. That is, having, in all series, from the quarterfinals to the eventual final, the tiebreaker at home. I believe Dusko Ivanovic will be in first place, but above all the fans believe in it.
And that there is this act of faith towards captain Belinelli and his teammates is demonstrated by the enthusiasm of the fans. The Segafredo Arena is already sold out. And on Sunday, in fact, there will be ten thousand fans of the Black V ready to push the team with their warmth.
The team has returned from Scafati in the meantime and has already started training at the Porelli gym. Neither Toko Shengelia nor Marco Belinelli are causing any particular concern.
The Georgian had not even left (by train) for Campania due to a back problem that was in the process of being resolved.
The captain, who was also on the scoresheet, was spared, as a precaution, a match that his teammates immediately directed in the right direction.
From the future to the recent past. In Bazzano, Osteria del Rivellino, some of the protagonists of the promotion to Serie A obtained on June 3, 2005 in Porto San Giorgio met, closing the accounts, in the final, against Montegranaro. In Bazzano there were the tactician, Giordano Consolini; the experienced bomber, Mario Boni; the young up-and-coming player, Simone Flamini; the long of a thousand battles, Roberto Casoli and the Argentine grit, Andres Pelussi. With them also the voice of Virtus, Gigi Terrieri, the athletic trainer, Renzo Colombini and Dr. Luigi Venturoli.
Lunch, complete with a commemorative T-shirt – 'Winds of Passion' – which Daniele Parente (who was the playmaker for that team), Michele Teglia (the assistant Consolini), Matteo Maestrello, Marco Santucci (the sports director) and Massimo Faraoni (the giemme) had to give up, for various reasons.
It was Virtus that, after being disbanded in 2003, was reborn from its ashes (a club without a championship but, it should be noted, never bankrupt) thanks to Claudio Sabatini and the experience of Progresso.
There will be a reunion-2 soon: because the usual Andres Pelussi, who in the meantime has become the sports director of the Argentine national team, will return to the PalaDozza for a test with his national team. The appointment is already set (for the Azzurri) for August 14.
