Bergamo, 13 May 2025 – Back in the Champions League, for the fifth time since 2019. Marten de roon, with Toloi, Djimsiti and Pasalic, he played in all five of Atalanta's Champions League qualifiers, wearing the captain's armband in the last two.

The captain

"It this time I got really excitedIt is not a given that Atalanta will go to the Champions League for the fifth time in seven years, it was an extraordinary year: for a moment I also dreamed of the championship but finishing ahead of clubs like Juve, Fiorentina, Milan, Roma and Lazio, confirming third place with two games to spare, means we did things very well and I'm proud of this team," explained the Nerazzurri captain.

The 34-year-old Dutch midfielder, now a Bergamo resident by adoption, then remarked: “It is an extraordinary and deserved result: we dreamed of playing for something more important, but we didn't succeed. Scudetto next year? We hope to be able to play for goals like this. Let's start with our feet on the ground, for the 40 points, then we'll see. This mentality and this strength will always give us the opportunity to always play for more important goals".

An inevitable comment on the still uncertain future of Gian Piero Gasperini: “If you have a coach who takes you to the Champions League five times in the last seven years... I I will ask the coach to stay, because the result counts and the coach always brings this: he is fantastic in tactics and always manages to motivate the team. I know him well by now and I hope he stays. In the end, however, it is his choice", concluded De Roon.
