Brugge, 21 January 2025 - The away match in Belgium ends goalless JuventusOn the seventh day of the Champions League group stage, the Old Lady fails to overcome the obstacle BrugesWith this result, the black and white team is certain to participate in the playoffs to access the knockout phase.
The choices of the two coaches
Bruges (4-5-1): Mignolet; Sabbe, Ordonez, Mechele, De Cuyper; Talbi, Jashari, Vanaken, Onyedika, Tzolis; Jutgla. All. Hayen.
Juventus (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Savona, Gatti, Kalulu, Cambiaso; Locatelli, Douglas Luiz; Nico Gonzalez, Koopmeiners, Mbangula; Weah. Coach Thiago Motta.
First half
Juve without McKennie, Thuram, Yildiz and Vlahovic from the 1st minute: starters among others Savona, Douglas Luiz and Weah. A little more than a minute passes and the Piedmontese lose a bad ball coming out, but are not punished by Jutgla's conclusion, wide. Also out of measure is the cross from the same Jutgla for Tzolis, after a nice combination between Sabbe and Talbi. Many errors for the Old Lady, in control of the game but unable to create any danger near Mignolet. The Belgians hold the field very well, even if they too are unable to worry Di Gregorio for the moment. The minutes pass without experiencing great emotions. The opportunities are scarce and in fact at half-time the result is still stuck at 0-0.
Second half
Four minutes into the second half, a misunderstanding between Di Gregorio and Savona led to the first big chance of the match: after the visitors lost the ball, Vanaken immediately served Tzolis, who in turn went to the free Jutglà, whose shot went just wide. The response from Thiago Motta's men was immediate: a double burst from Mbangula, who sent in a very inviting cross, but when he was about to hit the net Nico Gonzalez stumbled on the ball, then Douglas Luiz's attempt went high. The same fate befell Koopmeiners' long-range left-footer in the 57th minute. In the 65th minute, the first changes for Madama, with Yildiz and the returning Conceicao replacing Mbangula and Weah. On the other side, Hayen took off Sabbe and Jutgla, and brought on Seys and Nilsson. In the 70th minute, a big chance for Koopmeiners, whose header on a cross from Conceicao just misses the target. Three minutes pass and this time it is Brugge who make themselves seen in the offensive zone with Nilsson's spin, who finishes his run over the crossbar. Thiago Motta also runs out of cards on Thuram, McKennie and Vlahovic, in for Koopmeiners, Douglas Luiz and Nico Gonzalez, while on the other strong Vetlesen replaces Tzolis. Locatelli tries with a shot deflected into a corner by Mignolet. On the other front, Di Gregorio is punctual in coming out on Talbi's escape, who then leaves the field for Meijer. The Old Lady's forcing leads to nothing and so after the three minutes of added time granted the match ends 0-0.
