All matches simultaneously on Wednesday. Inter close to the eighth-finals, Milan and Atalanta called to win, for Juve the playoff spectre: the program and TV times

Sergio Conceicao
Bologna, January 28, 2025 – All in one night and all at the same time for the first time. It will truly be a wild Wednesday night in Champions League for the last round of the single group. There are verdicts still to be pronounced and others already certified, with three Italian teams close to the eighth-finals, one (the Juve) destined for the playoffs and the fifth (the Bologna) already eliminated. For now, there are two teams mathematically qualified for the round of 16 and they are Liverpool e Barcelona, while at the bottom of the table nine teams are certain of elimination (Bologna, Sparta Prague, Leipzig, Girona, Red Star, Sturm Graz, Salzburg, Slovan Bratislava and Young Boys). In the middle a large group still fighting to enter the playoffs and the eighth finals, with particular attention on Manchester City, which would currently be eliminated and is forced to win the last match to catch up with the next round. After all, they are trembling Club Brugge, who plays against City, but also Benfica, PSG, Sporting, Bologna's opponent, and StuttgartThe play-off draw will be held on January 31, with the first leg matches being played on February 11-12 and the return legs on February 18-19. The round of 21 draw will follow on February XNUMX.
The ranking
There is only one team with full points and that is Liverpool (seven wins in a row), followed by Barcelona (six wins and one defeat) and Inter and Arsenal (both with five wins, one draw and one defeat). The Gunners and the Nerazzurri only need one point to qualify for the eighth-finals against Girona and Monaco, a mission not impossible, while from fifth place onwards everything is up for discussion and it should be remembered that the first requirement to establish who is ahead in the event of equal points is the goal difference. Every goal scored and every goal conceded will count a lot for the purposes of the standings.

The combinations of the Italians
Four out of five Italians are practically certain of progressing to the next round, while Bologna, despite the victory against Dortmund, is mathematically eliminated. The easiest task seems to be that of Inter, which hosts the San Siro Monaco. After their success in Prague, a draw is enough for the Nerazzurri to have mathematical certainty of the round of 16 and avoid the play-off round. A little effort is also missing from Milan of Conceicao, who is sixth in the standings with 15 points. The Rossoneri need a victory in Croatia with the Dinamo Zagreba to have mathematical access to the eighth finals and not do calculations, while in the event of a draw it will be necessary to look at the results of the other matches also considering the goal difference (now at plus 4). The Croatians, on the other hand, need to win as they are currently twenty-sixth with 8 points, two less than Benfica, Psg, Sporting and Stuttgart who would today qualify for the play-offs. A more complicated mission for Atalanta, who will visit Barcelona without Lookman. Gasp's men are seventh with 14 points, but need to win on Catalan soil to hope for the last XNUMX. A draw, in fact, could lead to the overtaking of Aston Villa and Leverkusen who have on paper easy commitments against Celtic and Sparta Prague. Very little hope for the Juve by Motta. The draw in Bruges left the Bianconeri in seventeenth place with 12 points and to reach the last XNUMX they would need a victory against Benfica and a miracle, that is, hoping that all nine teams above them in the standings do not do the same.
