Bologna, 10 March 2025 – Crucial week for Inter with two matches of significant importance on two of the three fronts in which it is competing. In the Champions League comes the Feyenoord Tuesday evening at the Meazza, while at the weekend Inzaghi's team will travel to Bergamo for the direct clash for the Scudetto against the Goddess of Gasperini, fresh from the great 0-4 success on the pitch of Juventus. Two key stages to stay in the running for the possible treble. We start in Europe, where the Nerazzurri must defend the two-goal advantage gained in Rotterdam (Thuram and Lautaro), which could have become three if Zielinski had not wasted the penalty in the second half. The Pole, moreover, injured against Monza, will not be there. For Inzaghi there are however greater rotations with the returns of Carlos Augusto and Zalewski, against a Feyenoord in great emergency and with many absences especially in midfield.

The qualification criteria

Inter with one foot and a half in the quarter-finals and with the need to have a good approach to the match to prevent the Dutch from coming back into the game with a goal in the first minutes. The 0-2 of the first leg allows Inter to have two results out of three available, while in case of defeat the Nerazzurri will have to avoid a two or more goal difference. Feyenoord, for its part, must win with a two-goal margin for extra time and with three to advance to the round.

Probable lineups

Simone Inzaghi has to manage the double commitment and will keep an eye on Bergamo. He could give Lautaro a rest Martinez, struggling with fatigue, with Taremis possible attacking partner for Marcus Thuram, while in the middle there is a chance for Calhanoglu as a central pivot with Frattesi and Mkhitaryan on the sides and Barella initially on the bench. On the wings there is no rest for Dumfries on the right, while Dimarco is still out on the left and it will be Augusto's turn. In defense Pavard, Acerbi and Bisseck should be the starters (perhaps rest for Bastoni), with Sommer returning in goal. In Feyenoord there are many absences unless there are sensational last-second recoveries. Gonzalez, Trauner, Timber, and Stengs are out, in addition to the suspension of Osman, but Read will return after being absent in the first leg. For Van Persie, there will be room for Bueno, Hancko, Beelen and Read at the back, Moder and Smal in the middle as midfielders, and Moussa, Paixao and Ivanusec up front to support Carranza. INTER (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bisseck; Dumfries, Frattesi, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Carlos Augusto; Taremi, Thuram. Coach Inzaghi FEYENOORD (4-2-3-1): Wellenreuther; Read, Beelen, Hancko, Hugo Bueno; Moder, Smal; Hadj Moussa, Paixao, Ivanusec; Carranza. Coach Van Persie.

Previous

There are only three precedents between Feyenoord and Inter and with three different results. The two teams met in the semi-final of the 2001/2002 UEFA Cup and the Dutch won 0-1 at San Siro, defending their advantage in the return leg which ended 2-2. The other precedent obviously dates back to the first leg last week with the Nerazzurri winning 0-2.

Simone Inzaghi's statements

Important week for Simone Inzaghi which not only has to face Feyenoord e Atalanta but also manage the condition of his own, starting from Lautaro and De Vrij who have suffered some small problems and have rested as a precaution. Inzaghi confirms that both will not be starters, but any decision on the call-up for the Champions League will be made on the day of the match: "We have to evaluate, this morning both of them went to the gym as a precaution. They will do a workout tomorrow and then we will see if they will be available", the coach's response to Sky Sport. Then, we should not underestimate Feyenoord who will try to put Inter in difficulty at San Siro, perhaps looking for an early goal to reopen the challenge. The warning from Inzaghi: "As in the first leg, they will try to alternate moments of aggression with others of waiting, but we are facing a team that will come to create difficulties. We will need a game of running, determination and aggression." Inter comes into the match after Saturday's comeback against Monza. A big risk for Inzaghi's team who found themselves two goals down against the bottom of the class: "Did we concede too many goals? All the matches in Serie A are difficult and organised teams put you in difficulty. Despite this tour de force we will have to play a game with great clarity". As for the goal, there is confirmation of Yann's return Summer: “Yes, he will return. Martinez did very well and I am happy. Sommer trained well and it will be his turn”. But Inzaghi is thinking about the match with Atalanta of the championship? Obviously the answer is no: "We'll think about it from Wednesday, we're focused on the Champions League. We play a lot and we have some absences but we're focused on Feyenoord". On the eve of the match Denzel also spoke Dumfries. As a good Dutchman he knows Feyenoord, who will not come to Milan on holiday: “They will come with a lot of determination and will try to score, for them it is the last chance – he said – Are we thinking about the treble? We can win three titles and we play for that. So I want to win all three”. And Dumfries is not looking at Atalanta either: “Every game is important, we play three competitions and we work to win”.
