The San Siro Stadium
Milan – The UEFA Executive Committee, meeting in Prague, has revoked to Italy the Champions League final 2027, assigned to Milan. The reason for this would be the lack of guarantees on the availability of the San Siro stadium.
"Since the Municipality of Milan cannot guarantee that the San Siro stadium and its surroundings will not be affected by the renovations during the 2027 Champions League final - UEFA explained in a note - it was decided not to assign the final to Milan and to Reopen the procedure of competition for designate a suitable location, with a decision expected for May-June 2025". The final will therefore not be automatically assigned to another Italian stadium, for example the Olympic stadium in Rome as was rumored and as the FIGC hoped in order not to lose the prestigious event at a national level, but back at your disposal of whomever city advances a candidacy.
La decision on San Siro was in the air: weighing on the uncertainty about the future of the Milanese plant. The Common, owner of the Meazza, is currently unable to assure to FIGC and UEFA in that May 2027 – month of the final – the Scala of football is not a construction site, at least in part, to achieve the renovations proposed by Webuild and on which the Municipality, on the one hand, and Milan and Inter on the other hand they have been negotiating for months.
Regarding the revocation of the Champions League final in Milan, it was The Municipality of Milan to write to the FIGC to illustrate the situation regarding the San Siro stadium, Palazzo Marino points out. In fact, the Municipality does not know, at the moment, if and when the works on the structure can be carried out, given that Inter and Milan have not yet decided definitively what will happen to the Meazza and whether they will invest in that area. Because of this uncertainty, the Municipality then explained the situation to the Federation which in turn illustrated it to UEFA.
