Tomorrow's is the 28th crossing between As an ed Empoli, but only the eighth in Serie A. If overall the balance smiles at Como with 11 victories to 8, plus as many others draws, in the top Italian league, Empoli boasts 3 wins to 3, with 14 draws. In fact, two of these three successes were achieved by the Azzurri at the Sinigaglia, on 2002 September 2 (0-17 for the then team of Silvio Baldini, scored by Luca Saudati and Antonio Di Natale) and on 1987 May 1 when a goal by Osio was worth the final 0-XNUMX and the consequent first historic salvation.

Considering all the competitions (Serie B, Serie C and Coppa Italia) even on the lake shore the balance remains favorable to Como with 7 wins to 4 and 2 draws. In addition to those already mentioned, the other two Empoli victories in Lombardy came in Serie C1 1995-'96 and in Serie B 1948-'49. In the first case, Luciano Spalletti was on the bench and Giovanni Martusciello and Stefano Nicoletti were on the pitch to score the 2-1 that allowed Empoli to consolidate their lead in Group A. In the second case, it was the first ever meeting between the two teams, with the Azzurri led by Renato Tori who also prevailed 2-1 thanks to the goal by Egiziano Bertolucci and an own goal by Alfredo Travia.

As for the results, the most frequent is 1-0, obtained 5 times by Empoli and 4 by Como, while the match with the most goals was a 3-2 in favor of the Lariani at the Sinigaglia on 22 November 1987, the first leg of the second Serie A match for the Azzurri.

Tomorrow's match will be only Roberto D'Aversa's fourth against Como since the Italian coach began his coaching career. And the balance is extremely positive given that he has won all three previous matches: in addition to the first leg at the Carlo Castellani-Computer Gross Arena, decided by a goal from Pellegri, he also prevailed against Lecce (1-0 in the first round of last season's Coppa Italia) and against Virtus Lanciano (1-0 in Serie B 2015-'16).
