Manchester, 11 March 2025 – The Manchester United will change home: on their official website, the red devils have announced their intention to change the stadium where their home games are played. The reds of Manchester will say goodbye to Old Trafford to make room for the New Trafford, a new 100-seat facility. The company's goal, as confirmed by the owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is to redevelop the area of the southern district of Manchester with the construction of the new facility, for which there will also be help from the English government. The birth of New Trafford, in fact, will guarantee an economic benefit of approximately 7,3 billion pounds per year, with the creation of 92 thousand jobs and approximately 1,8 million annual visitors in the area where the new facility will be built. The construction of the new home also means the "rebirth" of the club after the dark years it is going through: according to Ratcliffe, Manchester United is the best club in the world, therefore a stadium is needed that is up to the club, something that Old Trafford, built way back in 1910, is no longer. New Trafford will be the second largest stadium in Europe behind Camp Nou, which, at the end of the works, will have a capacity of 111 thousand seats. Also Sir Alex Ferguson, historic manager of Manchester United who led the club from 1986 to 2013, has judged positively the new project of the red devils. The former Scottish coach reiterated how the club must always aim for the best in everything, both on and off the pitch, and if this also means building a new home, he is happy to support the project, even though the current stadium of the red devils holds many special memories for him. The facility should be inaugurated in 2031, and the management's objective is clear: to bring the club and the Manchester United brand back to the levels they deserve and to turn things around after these difficult years that have negatively affected one of the most important teams in history. The architectural group responsible for the construction of the new stadium is the Foster + Partners, which revealed the features of New Trafford: it will be contained by an umbrella that collects energy and rainwater and shelters the new public square that will be more than double the size of Trafalgar Square. Although it usually takes ten years to build a new stadium, the company's aim is to halve the time and build Manchester United's new home in just five years.
