Newcastle celebrate the EFL Cup, their first trophy since the 1968-69 season

London 17 March 2025 - Only eight games in English football this weekend, this is because on Sunday evening Liverpool e Newcastle they fought for a trophy in the English League Cup final. In the league, however, there were two London derbies, almost as if to compensate for the absence of two matches from the calendar. The winner wasArsenal in the challenge at the Emirates against the Chelsea, consolidating their second place at -12 from Liverpool, while the Tottenham falls at Craven Cottage against the Fulham. Confirms his good moment the Manchester United winning against Leicester City, while in the safety zone the sprint of the Wolverhampton away from hot spots.

The outcome of the weekend's matches

The weekend of Premier League opens with a fundamental challenge for the safety zone. The Southampton di Ivan Yuric fails to reopen its chances for salvation and in all likelihood definitively says goodbye to its chances of salvation. Defeated at St. Mary by Wolverhampton for 1-2, an important break for the Wolves, who move away from the red zone: +9 for them from the relegation. The yellow and black team celebrates the defeat ofIpswich Town at home against Nottingham Forest. Tricky Trees prevail 2-4 against Tractor Boys, as does Manchester United against Leicester City in his clear 0-3.

The home teams win the two London derbies.Arsenal closes the gap at the top and is back to -12 from Liverpool, beating the Chelsea 1-0 thanks to the goal of Mikel Merino on corner developments. He does better instead Fulham who won 2-0 at Craven Cottage against Tottenham, Spurs also tired by the comeback of Europa League against theAZ Alkmaar. However, he fails to take advantage of the Blues' stoppage. City di Guardiola, stopped at 2-2 at home by Brighton in full fight for the Champions League. In the middle of the rankings the Brentford exceeds the Bournemouth for 1-2, stopping the Cherries' run towards the top four positions. Finally, a draw at Goodison Park between Everton e West Ham

As mentioned, two games less in this twenty-ninth day, one will be recovered on the next 16th April, between Newcastle e Crystal Palace, one anticipated several weeks ago between Liverpool e Aston Villa. This is because at Wembley Liverpool e Newcastle they competed for the title of EFL Cup (o Carabao Cup for sponsorship reasons), the English League Cup. Sandro Tonali's Magpies triumphed 2-1, thanks to goals from Burn Energy Drink e Isaac, while in the final part of the race Church tries to reopen it, but it's not enough. The black and whites of England thus return to lift a trophy 60 years after the last time, the first League Cup in their history.
