Lisbon, 6 March 2024 – Ends 1-1 the first leg of the round of 16 of Europa League between Sporting and Atalanta. The team of Gasperini access to the quarter-finals will be played in the scheduled second leg Thursday 14 March in Bergamo. The Nerazzurri were unlucky as after the goal of Paulinho they go wild collecting scoring opportunities: the posts of Holm and Scamacca and the big blow of DeRoon, before Scamacca's deserved equaliser. The same attacker immediately came close to doubling the score, but the Sporting goalkeeper saved with a miracle.
In the second half Atalanta hits the third post with one Lookman magic, then the woodwork saves the Goddess following a header from Coates. Gasperini launches onto the pitch Koopmeiners, De Ketelaere and Touré and it is precisely the latter who deceives the Bergamo players by scoring an overhead kick a few minutes from time: but the goal is disallowed for offside. It's the last emotion of a spectacular match.
