Lecce, 21 January 2024 - Il Lecce to put behind them a negative period, made up of three defeats in the last four outings. There Juventus to obtain the fifth consecutive success in the championship and take the temporary top of the standings, taking advantage of the fact that theInter is involved in the Super Cup. The match that closes the 21st day of Serie A takes place at the "Via del Mare" stadium, that is, the match between the Giallorossi and Bianconeri, fresh from diametrically opposed moments. However, pay attention to the internal performance of the Apulians, who in this championship have only lost twice on friendly soil (against Naples and Turin), obtaining prestigious results such as the success against Lazio and the draw with Milan.

The curiosity

Lecce remained unbeaten in the last four matches at the "Via Del Mare" in the championship (one win and three draws); the Salento team have not recorded a longer streak without any home defeat in Serie A since the period between January and April 2012 (eight in that case with Serse Cosmi as coach). Juventus have never lost in their last 15 championship matches (12 wins and three draws); since the return of Massimiliano Allegri on the bench, only once have the Turin players recorded a longer streak without defeat in Serie A: 16 matches between November 2021 and March 2022. Since the season in which he scored his first goal in Serie A (2020/21), only Stephan El Shaarawy and Ciro Immobile (both seven) and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (six) have scored more goals from the 90th minute onwards in the top tournament than Roberto Piccoli: five, including the one against Juventus, wearing the Empoli shirt, at home, last May 22nd. After the goal against Frosinone and Salernitana, the Juventus striker, Dusan Vlahovic, can find the goal in three away matches in a row for the first time in his Serie A career. In the last two seasons (since 2022/23), no player has scored more goals than the Serbian from direct free kicks in the top five European leagues: three , like James Ward-Prowse, Vincenzo Grifo and Aarón Martín. After scoring 10 goals last season in Serie A, the former Fiorentina striker has nine goals this season; in the last 50 years only one Old Lady player has reached double figures in goals in at least two top-flight seasons before turning 24, i.e. Paulo Dybala (2015/16 and 2016/17).

Previous

The upcoming one represents the 36th match between Juventus and Lecce in Serie A. The Bianconeri have won 23, the Salento four, with also eight draws. Lecce have won only one of the last 15 matches against Juventus in Serie A (3N, 11L): 2-0 on 20 February 2011 at "Via Del Mare", losing all four of the most recent games, with a score of 1-8 . After the 1-0 in the first leg, Juventus can win both seasonal matches against Lecce without conceding a goal for the first time since the 1997/98 championship (two 2-0s on that occasion, with Marcello Lippi on the bench). Juventus have scored in 17 of the last 18 games against Lecce in Serie A: 38 goals for the Bianconeri in the period (2.1 on average per match). Juventus has remained unbeaten in nine of the last 10 away games against Lecce in Serie A (6W, 3D), the Giallorossi's only success in the period dates back to 20 February 2011 (2-0 with goals from Mesbah and Bertolacci).

D'Aversa's comment

“Juventus on paper is a very strong team. To face certain teams you have to play with courage and intensity, they are superior to us in terms of quality but with determination we can play a great match. We must not make mistakes." These are the words spoken by Roberto D'Aversa in the press conference to present the match that awaits his team. "We know the importance of our fans, our stadium pushes a lot. At the end of the match we shouldn't complain about anything, we will have to give 100%".

Allegri's words

"Playing in Lecce will be complicated - Allegri's thoughts - Our opponents played some good games against Inter and Lazio, maximum attention will be needed. They are a team that defends very well and in the last four home games they have always produced results. Ours the first objective will be to keep a clean sheet since we haven't managed to do so in the last four away games. Surely two of them will play: Milik, Yildiz and Vlahovic. They are all doing well and whoever comes on from the bench will also be fundamental, as always more serene and calm way and this path will lead him to complete technical maturity. Andrea has grown a lot, I'm happy. He is a player who can play different roles, he is technically valid and has become an important player for us."

Probable lineups

Lecce (4-3-3): Falcone; Gendrey, Baschirotto, Pongracic, Gallo; Kaba, Ramadani, Gonzalez; Almqvist, Krstovic, Strefezza. All. D'Aversa.  Juventus (3-5-2): Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso, McKennie, Locatelli, Miretti, Kostic; Vlahovic, Yildiz. All. Allegri.

The arbitrator's appointment

Lecce-Juventus will be directed by the referee Daniele Doveri, from the Roma 1 section. The two assistants will be Berti and Ricci and the fourth official will be Perenzoni. VAR entrusted to Valeri, AVAR to Abisso.
