The D'Aversa case ends with the dismissal of the Giallorossi coach. The club - after the unfortunate incident of headbutting Henry from La Scala at the end of the match - took a night to ponder the decision. On Sunday, with an initial statement, he distanced himself from what the coach had done ("gesture contrary to the principles and values of sport") and then yesterday, with a new note, he announced that he had "relieved coach Roberto D. 'Aversa. Thanks go to the coach and his staff for the work done." We are now awaiting the decision of the sporting judge, D'Aversa could also face a maxi disqualification, certainly from two days upwards, even reaching the end of the season.
The coach apologized publicly the other day after the match, speaking of "an image that was not pleasant to look at". And he had also reconstructed his version of events on social media: "I came into head-to-head contact with Henry, but I did not head the Veronese footballer, nor did I receive one from him."
The header was a bit like the straw that broke the camel's back, as the Giallorossi's situation in the Championship is not very happy. The former Stuttgart-born midfielder, with a past on the benches of Parma and Sampdoria, leaves Lecce in sixth-to-last place in the standings with 25 points in 28 championship days, tied with Empoli. Meanwhile, yesterday the team resumed training without the guidance of the coach.
