Milan, 5 February 2025 – After the beautiful and historic success obtained against Atalanta by Bologna – returned to the semi-finals after 26 years – the Italian Cup quarter-finals propose another highly prestigious challenge: this evening at 21pm (live on Canale 5 and Mediaset Infinity), at the San Siro stadium, Milan and Rome they will in fact compete to conquer a place among the top four of the competition. The Rossoneri arrive there after the victory in the Super Cup and the real revolution in the January market, implemented with the aim of giving a decisive change of pace to this season marked by many ups and downs and in which the team does not yet seem to have managed to find the right identity. "This is the team that must be able to change the situation" said the Rossoneri plenipotentiary Zlatan Ibrahimovic yesterday at the presentation of Santiago Gimenez. Continuing their path in the Coppa Italia could be the first step to better approach a second part of the season that sees the Rossoneri engaged in the pursuit of fourth place and in the Champions League. Roma, on the other hand, seems to have found a bit of stability, after Ranieri's arrival on the bench, and, like the Rossoneri, has the objective - first of all - to make as much progress as possible in this competition, which also guarantees access to Europe: "We have the objective of doing well against Milan - Ranieri explained -, a team that hasn't lost at home in twelve games and is full of talent and champions. We, however, will play with the objective of doing well and getting through the round, certainly not to take a trip outside Rome. We are ready and I have the utmost confidence in my entire squad".
The choices of Conceiçao and Ranieri
They will start at least initially from the bench Gimenez, Sottil and Joao Felix (Bondo not called up), the latest arrivals at Milan's home who should take to the field again with a 4-2-3-1 ready to transform like a chameleon into 4-3-3: Pavlovic and Tomori will still be at the centre of the defensive package protecting Maignan – protagonists of an excellent derby – while Walker and Theo Hernandez will be on the flanks. Fofana will return to form the dam in front of the defence after a one-match suspension in the league, flanked by Musah and Reijnders, whose task will be to act as a link between the midfield and the three-quarter line where Pulisic and Leao will also be there to support Abraham. On the Giallorossi front, newcomer Rensch immediately deployed, who will be one of the three central defenders ahead of Svilar in the Ranieri's 3-4-2-1. Alongside him, Hummels and Ndicka. The former Rossoneri player Saelemaekers will instead act alongside Angelino on the outside of a midfield completed by Koné and Paredes. Dybala and Pellegrini will finally be the two attacking midfielders behind the striker Dovbyk.
