Parma, January 19, 2025 – A penalty is a penalty. At the Tardini in Parma, the home team, the Ducal, drew 1-1 with Venezia. A draw that, given the chances in hand, is perhaps a little too tight for Pecchia's team. The team from the lagoon started better, however, took the lead after just 20 minutes with the penalty converted by Pohjanpalo for a foul by Keita on Yeboah. Di Francesco's men, however, were unable to fully capitalise on their advantage in the remainder of a first half that was overall lacking in great excitement (only one shot on target) and, after closing the first half 1-0, they suffered the return of a Parma team that left the pitch amidst boos from the Gialloblu crowd, but was then revitalised by the changes made at the start of the second half by Pecchia: Hernani's entrance on the field – author of the equaliser from the penalty spot in the 56th minute – and Camara in fact it gave new life to the game of the home team who in the second 45' created a notable amount of goal opportunities with very little risk (goal disallowed for offside by Oristanio in the 78') but without managing to make the move to overtake.

First half

A lively start, with both teams immediately trying to play an open game: Parma has the first chance of the match and it's Almqvist's who almost takes the lead in the 8th minute with a volley that goes wide and just misses the opponent's goal. Venezia takes it and starts trying to respond on the counterattack but in the 14th minute the dukes are seen again near Stankovic with a free kick from Mihaila, which the goalkeeper of the lagoon team deflects into a corner with a plastic intervention. Opportunities not exploited by the Emilians who also try again with Delprato's weak header in the 16th minute but fail to capitalise and end up paying the price two minutes later, when Fourneau is called to the VAR monitor for a Keita's intervention on Yeboah. The check is very quick and leads to the yellow for the Parma player but above all to penalty in favor of Venice: appears on the diskette Pohjampalo with a well-angled and powerful right Suzuki is outmatched for Venezia's 1-0. The disadvantage is not enough to give a jolt to a Parma that does keep possession of the ball but does so in a sterile manner and without creating further worries for the defense of a Venezia that, in a second half of the first half characterized by several duels in midfield and just as many errors in the build-up phase, does not run further risks. So we return to the locker rooms with the guests in the lead and Parma overwhelmed by whistles from the Tardini.

Second half

After the break, Pecchia then decides to make three changes, bringing on Camara for the cautioned Keita, Man for Almqvist and Bonny for Cancellieri. Changes that give the dukes a jolt, who with Man (directly from a corner) and with Camara dangerous from distance twice immediately go close to equalising. It is the Ivorian in particular who has a great impact on the match and he demonstrates it in the 55th minute when, in an apparently harmless situation, he slips behind Candela, steals the ball from him and forces him to use bad methods to stop him in the area: this time the penalty for Pecchia's Parma who protests vigorously asking for a second yellow for the Venezia player. The requests of the Ducali coach are not granted but everything fades into the background when Hernani is surgical from the spot and wrong-foots Suzuki for the equaliser. It's all over again for the Venetians who have a spirit of reaction at 58' and try again with a shot from the edge of the area by Yeboah that forces Suzuki to work overtime. The last chance for the Ecuadorian who a few moments later leaves room for Oristanio, who enters the field together with Carboni. Despite the substitutions made by Di Francesco, Parma has a different face in the second half and at 75' they come within a whisker of taking the lead with a free kick by Di Hinaut, on which Stankovic excels by effectively taking the ball off the top corner. With his team struggling, By Francesco he then decides to bring in the fresh forces of Zerbin – making his debut in orange-black-green – who presents himself by serving the ball to Oristanio which the ex Cagliari player, at the height of a beautiful run, sends into the net: however, everything is ruined by the position offside of the Venezia strikerParma thus breathed a sigh of relief and closed the match on the attack, keeping the opposing defense in check with the plays of a tarantula-stricken Camara, who came close to scoring in injury time with a shot deflected into a corner by yet another providential intervention by Stankovic and then took part in a move that led to Man's high shot from an excellent position, which essentially brought the curtain down on the match.
