SASSUOLO"We spoke with Palumbo's agent, who is an important player, Modena made a financial request, we made an offer. When we saw how distant the two were, we stopped, also considering the good relationship we have with Modena, who did their job, as we did our job". This is how Giovanni Carnevali (photo) closes the Palumbo issue, which has set fire, with truly will-o'-the-wisps, on the last day of transfer market, adding that "there has never even been a real negotiation". A closed chapter, in short, but for the black-green manager others are opening now. The championship first and foremost ("I am very satisfied - he says - with what the team is doing. We are first in the league and it was not a given that we would start again so well") but also other things, because in the meantime Carnevali has been elected federal councilor in the 'quota' of Serie B and even if the hope is that his assignment will last only until spring (if the Sassuolo rises to A, the position falls) the idea is that there will be no shortage of work even in the federal sphere, with the manager who has already presented a series of proposals to president Gabriele Gravina. First, however, comes Sassuolo, "who wants to return to A league", and a market comes that, says Carnevali, "has allowed us to add important elements to the squad, on the basis of choices widely shared with Grosso, who is also doing an excellent job". The black and green manager clarifies how much he invested for Skjellerup ("3,2 million"), and makes it clear how the best market that Sassuolo could have done, it did by keeping the big names from the start. "Serie A and B series they are different worlds: in the summer we sold many players but we were clear from the start about those we didn't want to sell, this summer as in January. Obviously all this - concludes the Sassuolo CEO - was only possible thanks to the strength of the ownership, which allowed us to decline those offers that were not lacking, even for Berardi and even this summer, when the boy was still recovering from the injury of last spring. The priority, for us, was for the boy to recover and to take, together with him, another path". So far, mission accomplished. The rest, Carnevali makes it clear, will come... Stefano Fogliani
