Spal wastes golden opportunities against Torres in Sassari. Baldini can restart with confidence for the final rush of the championship.
Torres and Spal cancel each other out in the lunch match in Sassari, where Baldini's team is left to eat their hands for a series of chances wasted by Rao and Molina, which could have given the white and blues three golden points. Spal instead has to settle for a draw that only serves to catch up with Milan Futuro in fourth-last place (but the Rossoneri are ahead in direct clashes), -3 from Lucchese, +4 on Sestri Levante and +5 on bottom team Legnago Salus. If nothing else, the white and blues play a game of character, staying on top from the first to the last minute against the third force in the championship. An encouraging sign in view of the final rush, even if it would be better not to let certain opportunities slip away.
At the Sanna stadium, mister Baldini decides to play with a 3-4-3, with Spini, Molina and Parigini forming the trident and Nador in the midfield paired with Awua. The first half is lacking in emotions, with sterile territorial supremacy by Torres and Spal very attentive to the defensive phase but not achieved – or almost – from the waist up. In the second half the match becomes more lively, especially thanks to Baldini's team, who almost scores with the new entrant Rao at the end of a controversial action in which Fabriani is injured, but Molina decides to continue the action, unleashing chaos on the pitch. Rao himself shortly after finds himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but in an attempt to dribble he is hypnotized by Zaccagno. It's not over, because a free mistake by Casini opens a highway in front of Molina, who goes past the goalkeeper but his shot at an unguarded goal is blocked by Antonelli, then the ball ends up at the feet of Rao who is blocked by Zaccagno.
On the other side, Torres is seen practically only with a diagonal from Guiebre. For the rest, it fails to create any danger near Galeotti, who diligently takes care of the ordinary administration before opposing the insidious free kick from Masala. The last chance to break the balance is for Spal, coincidentally again with Rao, whose curling right-footer is saved by Zaccagno. The match in Sassari ends goalless, a draw that with the game over would be considered positive for Antenucci and his teammates who instead return to Ferrara with many regrets. But also the awareness of having played it on equal terms, indeed of having come very close to the coup on the field of the ambitious Torres. Mister Baldini can start again with a little more confidence from this performance and from Galeotti's clean sheet, with the aim of collecting as many points as possible in the last three days of the championship and obtaining a privileged position in the grid of the inevitable playouts.
