The route of the Amstel Gold Race 2025

Rome, 19 April 2025 – May is approaching and so is the Giro d'Italia, above all the moment arrives when the great classics riders begin to cross paths with stage race riders. This does not apply to Tadej pogacar, who wins everything or almost everything, but for Remco Evenepoel yes. The Belgian's approach to Liège starts from the first race of the Ardennes Triptych, namely the Amstel Gold Race 2025, where he will challenge the UAE standard bearer. The Olympic champion gets there with the victory at the Brabant Arrows over Wout Van Aert, while the Slovenian won the Flanders and came in second at Roubaix. A stellar challenge. The others will be left with the crumbs. The Cauberg will probably be the main wall where the two will attack each other with bursts and counter bursts. A week of great closing of the one-day races, then it will be time to think about the Giro - Tadej and Remco will not be there (they are aiming for the Tour) - where the favorite stripes will go to Primoz Roglic, while we should find Thomas to put on a show pidcock, third wheel at Amstel.

Timeline

Over 200 kilometers and 34 walls, this is theAmstel Gold Race 2025 which opens the Ardennes Triptych. 255 kilometers from Maasticht to Valkenburg, with a final circuit of 20 kilometers to decide the race. The first phase of the in-line race is not so demanding and the serious stuff will start about 100 kilometers from the finish line with the sequence of walls Plettenberg, Eyserweg, Schanternelsweg and Vrakelberg, while at minus 85 there will be the first passage on the finish line of Valkenburg, which comes shortly after the passage on the famous Cauberg (900 meters at 7.5%). The last 62 kilometers will be the decisive ones. It starts with climb 22 which is the Geulhemmerberg, then in quick succession Keerderberg and above all BemelerbergWe are approaching the second step on the Cauberg, which comes after the Fromberg and the Keutenberg, and there are only 19 kilometers to go to the finish line. A thrilling finale. The trio restarts with Geulhemmerberg, then again the Bemelerberg, which is located ten from the finish, and finally last Cauberg, 900 meters with maximums of 12%, only 1700 meters from the finish.

Favorites

As mentioned. There are two phenomena in the running. The main favourite appears to be Tadej pogacar, practically stopped only by an extraordinary Mathieu Van der Poel at Roubaix (but absent at Amstel). The Slovenian starts one step above Remco Evenepoel, who is aiming for the third Liège and sees the Amstel as a good preparation race, with the ambition of winning given the success at the Brabant Arrow. Behind them all the others. There is Wout van aert, according to the other day behind Evenepoel, there is obviously Thomas Pidcock, who changed teams and is the captain of Q36.5. This is the main quartet. Outsider Marc Hirschi, Maxim Van Gils, Valentin Madouas, Bean Healy, Thibau Nys and Dylan Teuns. As for the Italians, there are few chances. Simone Velasco will try to do something, just like Davide Formolo, Lorenzo Rota, Andrew Bagioli and Philip Zana.
