Siena, March 8, 2025 - One year ago Tadej pogacar he snapped on Mount Sante Marie and went on to win after a solo of over 80 km. This time, always at the same point, the first acceleration is given by tom pidcock, with the Slovenian in the unusual role of pursuer. The two find on the street Connor Swift, the last survivor of the morning escapees, and the trio continues compact until 49 km from the end, when the most awaited man slips on a downhill curve. Although bleeding and after changing bikes, pogacar it returns to the wheel of pidcock, with Swift which of the three curiously has the worst. The two protagonists of the day continue in agreement until the second passage on the Pinzuto Glue, upon which pogacar attacks, creating a vacuum despite a not exactly lucky day: despite this, the runner of theUAE Team Emirates XRG (which completes the party by bringing to the podium Tim Wellens) flies in triumph to Piazza del Campo and you take it 2025 Roads, bringing to 3 (like a sacred monster like Fabian Cancellara) his overall successes in this race full of pitfalls: in second place he sits pidcock, who will perhaps have some regrets for not having taken advantage of the not exactly graceful day of the champion still unbeatable despite the scratches and blood. Few, very few, the Italian jolts, and unfortunately this is no longer news: Alberto Bettiol, Diego Ulissi e Christian Scaroni (for him a suspected fracture of the clavicle), the surprise of the beginning of the season, are eliminated due to a fall, while the best of the Italians at the finish line of Siena è Mattia Cattaneo, at a sidereal distance from the best, who in turn arrive one by one. Previously, the women's edition had also taken place, which saw the success of Demi Vollering in front of Anna van der Breggen e Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, curiously two athletes who return to the road this year after a long absence: nothing to do for theItaly, what a square Silvia Persian as the best representative and far further away from the best one Elisa Longo Borghini already in difficulty on the climb of the Tolfe.

The news

The first acceleration is unleashed Michal Kwiatkowski (Ineos Grenadiers), who however fails to join the breakaway that forms on the first dirt section, that of Vidritta: I'm there to compose it Johan Price-Pejtersen (Alpecin-Deceuninck), Stan Dewulf (Decathlon AG2R The World Team), Lewis Askey (Groupama-FDJ), Connor Swift (Ineos Grenadiers), Simone Petilli (Intermarché-Wanty), Albert Withen Philipsen (Lidl Trek), Mark Donovan (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), Pepijn Reinderink (Soudal Quick-Step), anders foldager (Team Jayco AlUla) e Fabian Weiss (Tudor Pro Cycling Team), while the first fall involves Xavier Serrano (Team Polti VisitMalta). Punctures do not spare several protagonists, while a fall in the group sees the protagonists Diego Ulissi (XDS Astana Team), who then retired together with Christian Scaroni (XDS Astana Team) and Davide De Pretto (Team Jayco AlUla). Shortly before the start of the climb of Montalcino (6,5 km with an average slope of 4,8%) also falls david gaudu (Groupama-FDJ), which retreats. It is precisely at this stage that the platoon begins to mend the escape, which had gained a maximum advantage of over 5'. Apart from a few skirmishes between the leaders, as expected the race heats up on Mount Sante Marie, where it attacks like a year ago Tadej pogacar (UAE Team Emirates XRG): this time there are 78,5 km to go and, just to underline the differences with the last edition, he immediately takes over the Slovenian's wheel tom pidcock (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team), indeed, in a certain sense the first to accelerate. The two seem to be able to continue their action alone, but Swift, the first escapee, catches up with them. The twist occurs 49 km from the finish line, when pogacar, at the entrance to the stretch of Mountaperti, falls into a downhill curve, with Swift which follows its trajectory without ending up on the asphalt: this paves the way for pidcock, a specialist when the road goes downhill. The Slovenian, after changing his bike, sets off again and chases the new leader, easily reaching him first Swift on a steep climb. A bit surprisingly, pidcock slow down at the top of the Pinzuto Glue and waits for the return from the rear of pogacar: curiously, aside from the injuries of the world champion, the only one to lose out is Swift, now detached by more than 30 ''. The situation remains unchanged until the new passage on the Pinzuto Glue, upon which pogacar try to shoot: pidcock initially holds before giving up something 18,5 km from the finish. TheUAE Team Emirates XRG he is looking forward to the big shot in view of the podium and so Tim Wellens gains an advantage over the other pursuers. A Piazza del Campo he shows up, and it's the third time in total, pogacar, who wins in front of pidcock e waves. Little by little, all the others arrive, one by one and all separated by a handful of seconds and, as is now routine in cycling, the wait to see the silhouette of an Italian appear is not exactly short: the honour goes to Mattia Cattaneo (Soudal Quick-Step).
