Rome, 25 October 2024 - The fate of Mark Cavendish a real saga is being created that is enriched from time to time with new episodes that always seem to lead in the opposite direction. Just a few days ago the British he had still declared himself in the think tank for the 2025 after having once again made official the end of his epic Tour de France: now the situation seems to be leading towards an imminent withdrawal.

Intercepted by the microphones of Men's Health, the runner of theAstana Qazaqstan Team first of all he 'greeted' his beloved for the umpteenth time Great Boucle, of which he has held the record for stages won since this summer (35). "I had no idea what my head would be like after the last one Tour de France. Instead, it was a feeling like all the others: at the beginning you tell yourself that you will never do that thing again and then, after a few days, you can't wait for it to happen again. Then you realize that there will no longer be that routine you were used to and that, deep down, you liked. In the end, compared to other riders, in terms of percentages of victory it went very well: for many, being on a bike becomes horrible and this is also part of the result". Cavendish retraces some of the stages of his career starting from a long way back. "Everything I did in my youth was aimed at cycling and becoming a professional, including when I had to do odd jobs to earn something. Everything went well, until one day you find yourself old: you start to struggle more and need more time to recover from a race or to stay in shape". And here, Cavendish opens up perhaps for the first time to the imminent retirement. "It's not about stopping, but about starting something new. I will always ride a bike, but for some time I have been thinking about what to do after finishing my career. I want to continue in this sport, which I love: I have prepared myself for when I will no longer race". Not only a possible future in cycling but in other roles than that of a runner: Cannonball he also has other projects. "I will always go cycling, but I also like running and I have already put the idea of doing the Movie guide di Paris together with my brother, who was better and fitter than me when he was cycling and who has now started doing sports seriously again". In short, the dynasty Cavendish will continue in other disciplines as well: the path traced by Mark in cycling, with all due respect to his brother, it is still very profound. "I gave and did everything I could and I hope that anyone who rides a bike can love it as I have always done and as I will continue to do. If I have helped other people take this path, for me it will have been a great victory anyway".Read also - Bologna-Milan officially postponed
