Rome, 10 April 2025 - The crossroads, with a road that leads to the premature end of his career, is not unprecedented for Fabio Jacobsen, who traveled it for the first time in 2020 after the very serious accident at Tour of Poland which has even called into question his very life: a few weeks ago, however, the discovery of the double occlusion of the two iliac arteries once again risked stopping the dreams of the Dutchman, who told his ordeal (and the consequences) to the microphones of The Telegraph.

Jakobsen's statements

"I feel like an old grandfather, but I'm walking and moving again": this is how the confession of the runner of the Team Picnic PostNL, who explains in more detail the complicated post-operative period. "When you have an operation like this you are in great shape. Then you spend a night in intensive care and I came out of it very badly. They cut my abdominal muscles from top to bottom and opened me vertically to be able to reach both arteries. When they finished the operation, the abdomen had to be closed and it is a rather complicated operation if you have strong abdominal muscles. It is in this phase in which I felt the most pain, while the legs no longer bothered me". Aside from the splatter details, it seems everything went well for Jacobsen. "The surgeon was very satisfied, but the rehabilitation will be quite long: at least 8 12-weeks. For my abdomen and arteries I will have to rest for at least a month during which I am only allowed to walk". A suffering that will however prevent the '96 born athlete from much worse problems. "Physical condition is lost quickly, but the good thing is that I am still young and therefore I will be able to return to work quickly. In a few weeks I will have the first check-up and there we will establish the rehabilitation plan in which, perhaps, I will be able to return to cycling for a few hours a week". Naturally, the objective is missed Tour de France 2025, but her career is safe. "I may be sad, but injuries are part of the sport and I know what it means to have to get back to peak condition. My growth curve had stopped because of this problem and without the operation I would have had to stop racing."

Asgreen's statements

Then there are those who like Kasper Asgreen is preparing to live the Paris-Roubaix 2025, although without great expectations after a complicated start to the season. "I've been training well again for a few weeks now. I don't expect much for Sunday, but I'm really happy to finally take part in a classical. I want to go fast on the cobblestones, trusting in the support of my teammates. We will have a young team and I hope to give lots of good advice for a race with a unique path in this sport. Everyone, from the riders to the mechanics, will have to give their all, to then see that surprises are always around the corner: maybe - concludes the Dane - this time we will be the ones to surprise".
