Cycling, Uran retires: "An extraordinary journey"

Rome, 1 January 2025 - Traditionally, in cycling the1st January It's the day when everything resets: the riders change teams and the latter, sometimes, change their name. Then there are those who, perhaps even after having announced it in the previous months, are forced to deal with the actual beginning of a new life: that of a former cyclist, like Rigoberto Urán, who officially said goodbye to a world from which he received so much and to which he himself gave so much.  

Uran's statements

  The Colombian, who last raced with theEF Education EasyPost, has entrusted his social channels with the farewell words to professionalism, an adventure that began in 2006: all starting from the farewell to the last team of militancy. "Today for me is a day full of emotions that are difficult to explain in words. After 8 years in this formation, it is time to say goodbye to this uniform that has meant so much to me. This team was not just a sports home: it was a family that welcomed me in the best way from day one, allowing me to grow in all aspects. Here I trained not only as a cyclist, but also as a person, and for this I will always be grateful. I carry with me memories of many battles, between victories, defeats, tears and joys. But above all I will carry with me the many people I met on this journey, who made every kilometer worthwhile". Having said goodbye to theEF Education-Easy Post, Uranium says goodbye to cycling as a whole. "Today I leave this uniform and this chapter, but Rigo, everyone's friend, will always be with you. This also applies to the many fans I met on this journey, whom I thank with all my heart because they were the stimulus for every pedal stroke, even and especially the hardest ones. Without them, none of this would have been possible. Cycling has given me everything: it taught me to persevere, to fight, to dream and to get up after falls. Now I close this cycle with the satisfaction of having given everything and with the excitement for the new challenges on the horizon: first of all those concerning my wonderful family, but the bike will remain in my life".

Morkov's Farewell

  Among the many official withdrawals from today there is that of Michael Morkov, who took advantage of an event on the track to say goodbye. "It was special to do it on my home track, where I know every curve and seat. I'm happy that it's over after I announced this decision months ago. It was fantastic, but I couldn't wait to close this chapter. The only shame is that I didn't win, but today my legs weren't good. However, the emotion of having said goodbye in front of all these people, including my colleagues, remains".
