Rome, 1 November 2024 - Despite the denials of the person concerned, his weight loss in recent months had raised some doubts related to his performance on the bike, both on the road and on other surfaces: doubts swept away in part by the victories at the World Cup of gravel and cyclocross. Who knows instead that the new silhouette of Mathieu van der Poel no longer useful in the new 'career' on the horizon for a notoriously very versatile athlete.

Alicante half marathon hypothesis?

It seems that the Dutchman, instead of enjoying his well-deserved vacation in full relaxation, is trying his hand at various training sessions related to running and not only to keep fit even during the break, as is in fact the custom of many runners. According to the newspaper Het Nieuwsblad the plans of the son and grandson of art would include the half marathon Alicante , scheduled next November 10, in the context of the Mediterranean Grand Prix. And then? For now Van der Poel he has not yet made up his mind about the winter menu regarding mud: the priority today, strangely enough, is called running, and before thinking about the cold the runner of theAlpecin-Deceuninck wants to enjoy the mild temperatures of 'his' Spain, where he has been living and training for some time now. For the moment, running aside, the Dutchman's intentions for next year seem to be to give priority to the road, at least until the summer, when mountain biking should instead jump to first place.

The latest transfer market moves

Meanwhile, the transfer market continues, which sees the cauldron of runners still without a team for the 2025 to lose units. In fact, they are removed from the list, Davide Cimolai e Albert Torres, which find renewal in extremis with the Movistar Team. As for instead Alex Baudin e David Decker, on the horizon there are two new adventures after those now archived respectively at Decathlon AG2R The World Team and all 'Arkea-B&B Hotels: the Frenchman settles inEF Education EasyPost, while the Dutchman switches to theEuskaltel Euskadi. Chapter Italy: the very young Stefano Viezzi, today at Work Service-Vitalcare-Dynatek, in 2025 will enter the prestigious Development Team dell 'Alpecin-Deceuninck, with the aim of improving also on the road after having achieved excellent results in cyclocross, such as the title of world champion in the junior category. "Joining this team represents a big step for my career. I will have the opportunity to grow both on the road and in cyclocross and this versatility weighed heavily in my choice, because I want to improve in every area": these are the words of the 18-year-old from Friuli, who as well as Lorenzo Mark Finn (moved to the youth team of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) chooses a foreign team to complete his maturation. But first there will be the assault on the Europeans of cyclocross, scheduled for this weekend.
