Rome, 24 March 2025 – The presence of jonas vingegaard to the Volta a Catalunya 2025 it was initially scheduled before the black smoke of the last few days, which in fact eliminated the never banal head to head with, among others, Primoz Roglic, Egan Bernal, Richard Carapaz, Juan Ayuso, Adam Yates and Mikel Landa: the reasons for the Dane's absence are still linked to the after-effects of the fall that occurred at Paris-Nice 2025 (won by teammate Matteo Jorgenson) which, as revealed only in these hours by the person directly concerned, has left more serious consequences than initially made clear.

Vingegaard's statements

From 'simple' bruises and abrasions, with particular attention to the right hand, for which initially there were even fears of a fracture that would have slowed down the entire preparation in spring, we have moved on to a concussion: The two-time winner himself told the story Tour de France, intercepted by the microphones of the newspaper BT. "After the accident I felt dizzy and after the stage I had nausea and incredible tiredness, symptoms that lasted for several days. Now I am happy to be back in the saddle, although it took longer than expected due to a concussion that required a lot of rest". So, apparently, the concern about the hand was 'used' by Vingegaard and his Visma-Lease a Bike to hide from the public something much more alarming, fortunately now resolved: the future program of the Dane must now be established who, in the absence of the Classics, risks returning to the race directly at the Tour du Dauphiné 2025, in turn preparatory to the Tour de France 2025 and yet another challenge with Tadej Pogacar. "For now, we'll take it one day at a time and let rehab decide whether or not to make changes to my program."

Valverde new coach of Spain

Meanwhile, after complicated weeks for the feud between the Federation and Oscar Freire, who was then the protagonist of a voluntary one-day breakaway that caused many concerns before the final sigh of relief, Spain has officially appointed Alejandro Valverde as its new coach until 2028. "I have to thank the President and the Board of Directors for their commitment to me. I am very excited and I will do everything I can to win the World Championships, which are very suitable for our riders, and to show how much Spain is worth in cycling. Currently there are athletes of great calibre who are fighting for important victories, so I think we too will have our chances". Not only the World Championships, starting with the next one in Kigali which on paper are very suitable for climbers: the mandate of Valverde, someone who knows how to win the world title, will last at least until the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, at this point another objective for a Spain that is trying to carve out its place in the cycling of today's phenomena.
