Rome, 30 December 2024 - The year that is coming to an end has been anything but fortunate for jonas vingegaard, and we're not just talking about sports results. What happened last 4th April al Tour of the Basque Country he also left his mark on the apparently cold Danish, who opened up to the microphones of DR.

Vingegaard's statements

That day the runner of the Visma-Lease a Bike he suffered seven fractured ribs, a clavicle and a pneumothorax which in the first hours caused a lot of concern about his health conditions: a terrible fall which vingegaard recalls it almost as if to relegate it to this 2024 now in the very last stages. "It was the first time I fell and didn't look for the bike to get back on the saddle. For a moment I thought he was going to die from an internal hemorrhage and in those moments I thought it was all over". Not only that: after such a bad experience vingegaard he also questioned the continuation of his career. "In the end, my wife and I understood that I should continue to do this job, because it is my passion. When I was in the hospital, however, I did not think about Circumference of France: when you're in intensive care you can't even go to the bathroom, so imagine thinking about racing". And instead, in record time, the Dane manages to be at the start of the Great Boucle, which nevertheless finished in second place behind a Tadej pogacar in deluxe version. "My wife and I talked a lot about how I should run. We agreed that I would slow down if the situation was too dangerous and that's what I did in the stage 11, which I then won. pogacar he had attacked on the descent and I didn't want to take any risks: so I waited, losing time, before recovering in the final".

Mohoric's 2025

In Slovenia there are also phenomena Matej Mohoric, which to the microphones of CyclingUpToDate spoke about the past and the future. "For me it was a season to forget and I'm already working to do better next year. I fell at Tour of Flanders and at that moment I said goodbye to the dreams in Classics". So it's better to turn the page immediately. "I haven't decided on the program yet, but I will focus on Classics and then, after a pause, on the Tour de France. As for gravel, it's nice but tiring and so I don't know if in 2025 I'll run again." Mohoric, wisely, tries to lower the bar, but not downhill, the house specialty that in 2022 has brought success to the Milan-Sanremo. "It's up to us to take risks or not, but in a sport like this it's impossible to completely eliminate the dangers. Of course, I only take risks if there's a victory at stake. That's what I thought at the Milan-Sanremo, where I took a big risk on a bend: I could have crashed into a wall, but instead it went well and I won".
