Cycling, Vingegaard on rebreathing: "It should be banned: many make improper use of it"
The Dane talks about the controversial practice of inhaling carbon monoxide: "We used it, but only for monitoring. It's not like that for all teams"

Jonas Vingegaard (Ansa)
Rome, 20 January 2025 - Not only the controversial 'control room' experimented during the last Tour de France, also attracting several fears and perplexities: the Visma-Lease a Bike, also following the advice of theUCI, which in turn in the past months had referred the question to the Wada, has also abandoned rebreathing, the practice of inhaling carbon monoxide to improve athletic performance. Apparently not without risks.
Vingegaard's statements
At stake is the protection of anti-doping regulations, but above all health: a double issue on which, speaking to the microphones of Le Monde, he also expressed himself jonas vingegaard. "My team used carbon monoxide for blood measurements of us runners: it is inhaled for the first time before a period of training at altitude and then this operation is repeated at the end of this phase, thus evaluating the oxygen consumption by each one". According to the Dane, however, not everyone uses this practice in the right way. "Some teams make improper use of it, irregularly inhaling low doses of carbon monoxide, which is a practice that causes a significant increase in the performance of their runners. This is not right and I think that the Wada should intervene". No names or mentions have been made, but the impression is that the references could go to theUAE Team Emirates of the bitter rival Tadej pogacar, a team that for its part had not denied the use of rebreathing, as well as theIsrael Premier Tech: for now the red alarm has not sounded yet, but everything could change when the Wada will have expressed herself on the topic.
Thomas on Ewan
Who knows what the position of the Ineos Grenadiers, ready to say goodbye at the end of the year Geraint Thomas, which in the meantime for this 2025 dreams of welcoming in pink Caleb ewan, at odds with the Team Jayco AlUla. "I know him well, he is a good friend and if he came here it would be fantastic because we are missing a sprinter and nowadays 40% of the races end with a sprint. So, it would be good to have him with us: I hope it happens, but for now I have only heard rumours". These are the words granted to the microphones of Cycling News from the Welshman, who almost seems to be speaking as a future sports director rather than as a full-fledged rider. "A year ago we started the season very well thanks to Jonathan Narvaez (today at theUAE Team Emirates, ed.) and I think that starting well always gives a good boost. I would also like to do well and the goal is to win a race, whatever it is. I would like to go to the Tour de France and win a stage because for me the general classification is no longer so important: I prefer to be a good teammate and enjoy the opportunities that may come my way".
