Rome, May 11, 2025 - From 50,267 km to 50,455 km: 188 meters to improve its record already in force since 2023. Vittoria Bussi further improves its hour record and always does so in the very fortunate setting of Aguascalientes.

The new hour record and Bussi's statements

In fact, the great Roman hunt in Mexico but it doesn't end here, because soon there will be the assault on the record in the individual pursuit, which since February has been the prerogative of Anna Morris (4'24 "060): in the meantime, a lot has changed in the discipline, including the distance, which has gone from 3 a 4 km starting from1 January 2025. For the moment, however, the class of '87 can enjoy the achievement of the first major goal set for what should be the epilogue of a career full of laurels on the track. Speaking of the 'only' hour record, the first adventure had already begun in 2018, when his 48,007 km had been in force until 2021. Then the overtakings signed by first by Joscelin Lowden and then by Ellen Van Dijk, the latter in turn surpassed by October 2023: on that occasion Bussi became the first woman to break through the wall of 50 km runs in an hour. "I can say with a smile that I have contributed to the history of the women's hour record. This record has always been really special to me, as an athlete and as a person, and I hope to have conveyed to the younger generations and the public that sport is not just an athletic performance, but that athletes bring messages to the world. The hour record taught me that one of the most important things in life is to understand the importance of time in every single moment". These are the words of the Roman, who continues to hold the record in the discipline together, at the male level, with Filippo Gana, which a October 2022 a Grenchen he set the bar very high thanks to that 56,792 km which since then no one has even attempted to challenge. From Switzerland to the next 1800 meters of altitude of Aguascalientes, home once again to the history signed by Bussi, Already Golden Collar for Sporting Merit by the Cones. The mission in Mexico of the Italian, in fact, it's not over yet: in the sights is the primacy in the individual pursuit, according to the interested party perhaps the first true love when it comes to track. A year ago, just to stay in the current news, especially for a Roman, the smoke was black: soon the new attempt, strong in the push of what was achieved in the late Italian evening in Mexico, already a theatre in 1984 of the same record signed by Francesco Moser, in turn the first to break through the wall of 50 km, first signing a 50,808 km and then a 51,151 km. Lots of numbers, but they don't scare Bussi, a mathematician by profession, with a doctorate obtained in Oxford since 2014.
