Cycling, Espargaro and his role at Lidl-Trek: "I'll be an ambassador, but I dream of the road"

Rome, 22 December 2024 - Stealing part of the scene from the most beloved protagonists of current cycling phenomena is an arduous undertaking: Alex Espargaro, fresh from retirement from MotoGp and entry into the Lidl Trek, he succeeded. Yes, but in what role? The person directly concerned, in front of the press, tries to clarify.

  The Spaniard took stock of the situation, dispelling some doubts that have been circulating for weeks about his position in the US team. "Entering the world of cycling for me was a dream that I had already cherished a few years ago. At the time it wasn't the right time: this year, having decided to leave the MotoGp, I looked around and before the Tour de France I had contact with the Lidl Trek, with whom I was delighted to have reached an agreement soon after. Obviously, this is not the reason for my retirement from motorcycle racing: I wanted to spend more time with my loved ones, but in addition to that, I still feel lucky to be able to start this adventure." Asparagus talks about his first days as a cyclist. "For me it's a new world and only in these days, in the training camp, I understood the greatness of Lidl Trek. We had technical meetings, tested materials and met the staff and team members: I'm settling in and it's going well, on the bike and not. I was a bit afraid of the welcome of the champions in the roster and instead it went very well. In fact: I discovered that many riders love motorbikes and in fact in the first few days they asked me many questions. I believe that these two sports have many things in common and, by talking about them, I hope to be able to give a hand to the younger ones too". Here we come to the key point: what will be the role of Asparagus of Lidl Trek? "I will be an ambassador who will take care of marketing and communication, two very important elements in this field. I will be alongside the team in important races such as the Classics and Grand Tours, making it known how it all works through videos and social media. Behind the Lidl Trek There are many people who want to see the background, for example of a victory, and I will take care of this". So, so much fuss about nothing and of Asparagus on a bike not even a shadow? Apparently yes and no. "There are some mountain bike and gravel races that I would like to participate in, but my biggest dream is the road. However, it is too early to talk about calendars and programs: first of all I have to train, work and then we will see. I could be included in the Team Devo, the development team reserved for young people, but there is no danger that I will take away space from them: what is certain - he concludes Asparagus - is that I will give everything to do the best for the team."
