Cycling, divorce in sight between Ewan and Team Jayco AlUla?
The sprinter disappears from the Australian team's organizational chart and is not in contention for the 2025 Tour Down Under: now, with all the rosters complete, his entire career is hanging in the balance

Caleb Ewan (Ansa)
Rome, 9 January 2025 – Until not long ago Caleb ewan he was one of the strongest sprinters around, despite not being exactly a powerful man and teams not exactly at his service: then, also due to a few falls, something got stuck in the Australian's career and in his relationship with the Team Jayco AlUla, today more than ever shrouded in mystery.
The Mysterious Disappearance of Ewan
Just in the days when each team, with so much enthusiasm, is presenting riders, bikes and racing uniforms, the case Ewan takes on even more importance. What happened to the elf of Sydney? Browsing the web and social pages of the Team Jayco AlUla, the sprinter seems to have disappeared from the radar despite everything appearing normal until a few hours ago. Another clue, obviously while waiting for the definitive startlist, is provided by the formation chosen by the Australians for the home race, that Tour Down Under 2025 which as usual will open the season: the name of Ewan, obviously among the home idols, does not appear there either. Not only that: the Tasmanian, practically stopped since September, will not participate in the national championships (which in the time trial saw yet another success by his teammate Luke Plop) and was not even seen at the training camp held by his team in December. This last point had not caused much alarm, because several Australians had preferred to spend that period at home rather than in Europe, but now the issue is taking on disturbing aspects, even more so after the denial of any comment by the Team Jayco AlUla to the journalist Daniel Benson, who encountered the same wall of silence in the sprinter. And now, then, what will happen to Ewan? The hypotheses, taking the imminent early divorce as a given, seem to be two: a transfer to another team, with theXDS Astana Team very interested at least until a few weeks ago, before completing the roster, or even early retirement, as already aired by some rumors in recent months. A compromise could be a sort of sabbatical year that however seems to be difficult to reconcile with a cycling with rhythms, metaphorical and not, increasingly faster and that forgets very quickly.
Bennett's statements
From a 'disappeared' sprinter to another in crisis who wants to relaunch himself, like Sam Bennett, intercepted by the microphones of Wielerflits especially on the difficult impact with the Decathlon AG2R The World Team. "I didn't start as I had hoped, but in this environment I can find myself again. To get results, many combinations have to fit together and unfortunately last year I only started to feel good in September. Obviously I want more, even if as time goes by, young and strong riders emerge who don't see you as a strong opponent and want to oust you from the throne: it's a strange feeling that I still have to get used to". Bennett articulates this thought better. "I used to be accepted at the head of the group at the end of the race because the opponents feared me: today they shout at me to get out of the way because they think that anyway, I won't do anything. So, both I and the team have to earn some respect again".
