Rome, 7 January 2025 - Among the main disappointed of the 2024 there Fabio Jacobsen, determined however to redeem himself in the 'new' Team Picnic PostNL.
Jakobsen's statements
Who knows, maybe the new name of the Dutch team will help the former continental champion to find himself again after a complicated season in all aspects: starting from the physical one, as demonstrated by the 4 kg less than last year. "Last season I was not much of a cyclist and I was also too heavy to be a sprinter. 2025 must be better, while at 2024 as a grade I would give less than five". To complicate life for Jacobsen, interviewed by OUR, it was also the farewell from Soudal Quick Step, a sort of family from which it is often difficult to break free. "After 6 years in the same team you get used to certain processes. Last year I worked with new people and materials and for me it was all a research. Also, I had some falls at Giro d'Italia and also shortly before the Tour de France". In short, luck did not help the Dutchman last year, who thanks to his experience also realizes how much sprints have changed in recent years. "The races have also evolved. The finals are increasingly crowded, because there are no longer just sprinters, but also their teammates. Consequently, you have to be ready and fast to get around several people and to do that you need good legs, the ones I lacked in 2024. The most important thing for me is to find the explosion of power that I had in the past in the final stages of the race. To do that, I will have to work on my physical condition and positioning in the group: in this way I will arrive better at the final stages and suffer less in the following days". In short, in words Jacobsen he has identified everything: the ills and also the remedies. The verdicts, however, as always will be issued by the road, but in the meantime the preseason seems to satisfy the class of '96.
"I think I'm already in better shape than I was last January. I worked for two months and everything went perfectly and now there's only one month left until the start of theAlUla Tour". The real objective of the entire season is probably still far away but, at the same time, already in the mind of Jacobsen: the first stage of the Tour de France, That of Lille which also puts the yellow jersey up for grabs. "There's a big red circle on that fraction: for me everything revolves around that day. I want to win again: that's why I got on my bike and that's why I continue to do this job". Wise words, especially from a rider who August 5th, 2020, after the fall at Tour of Poland caused by a shoulder blow Dylan Groenewegen, he really looked death in the face and who with difficulty, going through an ordeal of numerous surgical operations, was able to get back up with good results, before the decline of the 2024
