Rome, 21 January 2025 - The new season opened in the Italian night with the first stage of the Tour Down Under 2025, who won in the sprint Sam Welsford, who thus earns the honor of writing the first page of this new book of cycling. Or rather, the first beautiful page, because the one concerning the first serious injuries that occurred in the race is taken Dylan VanBaarle, who falls and breaks his collarbone just like what happened in the past few days (but in training) to Albert Torres of Movistar Team.

Van Baarle's conditions and Welsford's statements

Il 2025 of Visma-Lease a Bike It opens in the name of the bad luck that had characterised the 2024, as evidence of a curse that seems to still be present despite the auspices in the last few days of the most anticipated protagonists. Among them, in a hypothetical second line of the starting grid, there is precisely Van Baarle, man in charge of Classics which at this point sees the beginning of spring and above all the previous preparation becoming inexorably complicated. In the bag of the Dutchman, joined this year in the team, on the women's side, by his life partner Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, include the Tour of Britain 2014, Dwars door Vlaanderen 2021, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 2023 and especially the Paris-Roubaix 2022, the most important seal of a career that in this dawn of 2025 immediately encounters a setback. On the other side there is Welsford, which is in the 2024 in that 2025 wins the first stage of the home race. "It was really tough and perhaps, as often happens to me, I started too early. In the final straight I struggled to keep the trajectory and at every bend I had to keep my teammates in sight and so I am doubly happy to have won, repaying them for their effort. I was afraid I wouldn't make it: in the last 50 meters - continues the runner of the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe - my legs were burning but then I did it and I was happy, even if I was so exhausted that I couldn't even raise my arm to cheer."

Belgium coach against Pogacar

I World Cup in Rwanda they are much further away but at home Belgium we are already thinking about how to beat it Tadej pogacar: word from the new coach Serge Pauwels. "We will have many arrows and many captains and it will be important to get them all to agree. I think of Remco Evenepoel e Wout van aert, who realize that they are complementary: the presence of one can make the other play more defensively and the positive thing is that the pressure does not fall on just one person. Obviously, it will not be easy to cope with so many leaders, just as it will not be easy to beat pogacar, but for our part we will try everything to make his life as difficult as possible."
