Walloon Arrow 2025, Pogacar: "A great team win and good feelings for Liège"

The Slovenian is echoed by Vauquelin, second today and also a year ago: "But this time arriving with the best group has a completely different flavour". Pidcock, third: "It's a shame about the cold"

Pogacar wins the Walloon Arrow

Huy (Belgium), 23 April 2025 - Tadej pogacar returns to win and does it at Walloon Arrow 2025, preceding on the podium Kevin Vauquelin, curiously also second last year behind the surprise Stephen Williams, and tom pidcock.

Pogacar's statements

This time the Slovenian relied more on his UAE Team Emirates-XRG in the figure of the (luxury) gregarious Brandon McNulty e Jan Christen, before setting out on his own for the final decisive step on the Wall of Huy, the final obstacle of a terrible day. "I felt really good: winning here again was really nice, even more so with this jersey. Today the weather wasn't the best, the race was tough and this victory means a lot to me. We ran really well as a team today, it was a tough race and my teammates had great legs: I'm confident for Sunday and I think we'll have another great race". These are the words of pogacar, which thus repeats its success obtained in 2023 and he does so, as he himself declared, also with a view to the imminent Liège-Bastogne-Liège 2025: at the time the podium was completed by Mattias Skjelmose, the surprise winner ofAmstel Gold Race 2025 right at the expense of the Slovenian and today knocked out by a fall, and Mikel Landa. Another business card of pogacar in view of the Deanery are the 10" inflicted on vauquelin, the widest gap ever signed by the 2003: at the time to tame the Wall of Huy fu Igor Astarloa, which inflicted well 16" to the compatriot Aitor Osa, but the context was different because the game was at stake Vallone Arrow were the escapees of the day. All this considering that in the last 100 meters the Slovenian practically slowed down to fully enjoy the newfound party after a few closed races having to settle for the other steps of the podium: practically a rarity.

The statements of Vauquelin and Pidcock

With all due respect, but between coming in second behind Williams and behind pogacar there's all the difference in the world there: he knows it well vauquelin, now a subscriber for two years to the second place at the top of the Wall of Huy. "To have managed to finish second with this group is just incredible. We had a pretty fast pace all day on the climbs, and that wore us down, allowing pogacar to take advantage of it. I didn't want to leave too late like last year, but Tadej was now in front". With the lights very off, a satisfied driver closes the podium pidcock despite the feelings I had the day before. "In the end it went better. I struggled because of the cold and so I think I can be happy with how it went. I knew it was important not to start too early, but I struggled to change gear at the beginning of the wall because of the cold on my hands. In the end I did a good climb: maybe I could have done better, but today pogacar it was on another level. I'll keep the good feelings for today and especially in view of Sunday".
