Castelnovo ne' Monti, May 21, 2025 – Richard's Scratch carapaz ineleventh stage of the Giro d'Italia 2025. After paying the price in the Pisa time trial, the Ecuadorian made a solo lunge towards Castelnovo ne' Monti, not so much for the general classification, he gained a few seconds, but for the stage victory, deserved for the courage and tactics of EF. Just behind the small group of the best led by the pink jersey Isaac Del Toro and a general one with few variations, except for the three positions gained by carapaz today sixth at 1'56” from the top. The Giro will continue on Thursday from Emilia to Lombardy with a stage that should reward the sprinters.

Timeline

172km stage from Modena to Viadana, probably suitable for the fast wheels of the group. It is true that the first part of the route is choppy, but then about 70 kilometers of plain towards the finish line should help the sprinters' teams to ensure a sprint finish. The first part passes through Ferrari's home, in Maranello, then Fiorano, Sassuolo, up to the third category GPM in Basio at kilometre 45. Here begins a long stretch of continuous ups and downs on the hills of Reggio Emilia, with passage to the intermediate sprint of Felina and the GPM of Borsea at kilometre 96 of the race. It is the last, easy, difficulty of a route that then flattens out between the provinces of Parma, Reggio, Cremona and finally Mantua. The last 3 kilometres with practically only the last bend about 500 m from the finish line. Wide, asphalted and well-maintained roads. Final straight of 450 m on 8 m wide asphalt.

Favorites

Group sprint stage. An initial breakaway will take place, taking advantage of the initial GPMs, but the seventy kilometers of flatland towards Viadana will give the group the chance to regroup. So watch out for the sprinters, starting with the cyclamen jersey Mads Pedersen, passing through Olav Kooji, Casper From Uden, then the usual Wout Van Aert, if he will sprint, Orluis Classroom, Kaden Groves, Corbin Strong and Sam Bennett.
