The route of the second stage

Rome, 8 June 2025 – Tadej starts again with a win pogacarThe Slovenian won the first stage of the Dauphiné Tour, in a stellar top four with his usual opponent Jonas vingegaard second, Mathieu Van der Poel third and Remco evenepoel fourth. In short, the 2025 Dauphiné started in fourth gear, immediately with a great show, not for the Italians, who are few in the race, and the best placed was Simone Velasco twentieth. Thanks to the bonus, Pogacar also took the overall leader's jersey with 4 seconds on Vingegaard, 6 on Van der Poel and 10 on Evenepoel. But the best is yet to come with the final mountain stages. Monday, however, should not be a stage for the overall classification, but a breakaway could start to avoid the final sprint. Difficult, but not impossible.

Timeline

Six total climbs in the second stage of the Tour du Dauphiné from Premilhat to Issoire of 204 kilometers. Long, demanding stage, but one that could also favor a sprint finish. There are four Cotes in the first 71 kilometers (Font Nanaud, Saint Priest, Rivaudas, Saint Jacques), but in the central part the stage does not level out because, even without GPM, it climbs towards the intermediate sprint of Olby, a stretch not to be underestimated. From here it descends for about twenty kilometers for another two Cotes, first the Chateau de Buron and then the Cote de Nonette (1.8 kilometers at 5.7%) located 18 from the finish. Considering the climbs are not very hard, the sprinters' teams could try to keep the race closed for a sprint finish in Issoire.

Favorites

It is difficult to establish a favorite in a stage like this. The steep sections could put the sprinters in difficulty, but it is not an impossible stage to monitor for the teams that want a sprint finish. Jonathan is definitely one. Milan he has shown that he can hold his own on climbs like that and he will try, but also Pascal Ackermann could have a chance. Let's also quote Matteo Trentino of the Tudor.
