Rome, 2 April 2025 – The season did not start well for the Yates twins, who at Giro d'Italia 2025 will be rivals: Simon will defend (starting this year) the colours of Visma-Lease a Bike, while Adam will be co-captain of UAE Team Emirates-XRG together with Juan Ayuso, with the same Isaac Del Toro in the guise of a dangerous loose cannon, without forgetting the equally valid Jay Vine and Brandon McNulty.

Adam Yates' statements

In short, there is life beyond in the Emirati team Tadej pogacar, but from the British side, intercepted by the microphones of CyclingNews, there is not much satisfaction for what has been achieved in this first part of 2025. "I had already said that at the beginning of the year I would try not to overdo it in the first races, but it still went well. If you are hit by some disease you lose something, but that's how things go". Yates, apparently coming off a spring full of ailments, but he's not making a fuss: the important goal is still far away, and there's plenty of time until May to refine his preparation. "It was a strange start of the season, but I'm not stressed. I'm in a good situation: I'm trying to keep trouble away and continue working towards the Giro d'Italia". In this regard, the choice of the route to take before the start in Durazzo on May 9 was different than usual. "Many guys prepare at full speed at altitude, especially in this phase, but I stayed home to work hard. Then I'll rest a bit before starting the real finishing phase".

Pidcock's statements

If the Bury native has already been to the Giro d'Italia in 2017, collecting a good ninth place, in sight for Tom Pidcock and his Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team there is a absolute debut perhaps with different ambitions in terms of the general classification or perhaps not, as demonstrated by the 16th and 13th place in the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023 respectively: we will find out in May thanks to the wild card reserved for the Swiss team by the organizers of the Corsa pink, who thus score a great result after the choice of a different opinion made by the top management of the Great Boucle. "I think for us as a team this is a fantastic opportunity. It's what we wanted since I arrived here and now the dream has come true. I think it will be a very exciting race, with several opportunities that I can't wait to seize. Happy for the team, for an Italian brand like Q36.5 and for me, who am ready and motivated to live this adventure".
