Florence, 15 January 2025 – The news was already semi-official about what would be the itinerary of the Giro d'Italia 2025 in Umbria e Toscana. Then came the official announcement with the various local Committees already at work to prepare the various collateral initiatives for this great sporting celebration that is the pink race. Let's follow the itinerary of the 108th edition.

The path

A Gubbio, the “City of Stone” also famous for the candle festival, the start of the stage with arrival in Sunday 18 May Siena after 181 km and stretches of dirt roads for a total of about thirty kilometers. A spectacular stage on roads that for years have hosted the great cycling in March with the road race "Strade Bianche". The arrival in the City of the Palio will invariably be in Piazza del Campo after the deadly wall a few hundred meters from the finish line.

The day after the arrival in Siena the Giro will observe a rest day with the caravan moving almost entirely in VersiliaThe Giro will resume on Tuesday 20 May with the individual time trial stage which will start from the starting platform in Piazza Napoleone in Lucca (where the Giro stopped in 2024 after 39 years with the success of the Frenchman Benjamin Thomas). It will be 28 km and 600 meters to reach, passing through San Giuliano Terme and Asciano Pisano, the Lungarni of Pisa and from here the finish line that will be placed in Piazza dei Miracoli. Another arrival after the one in Siena of extraordinary beauty and appeal, certainly a great opportunity to promote both cities. Among other things, the last arrival of the pink race in the city of the Leaning Tower dates back to 1980 and it was also on that occasion, 45 years ago, an individual time trial starting from Pontedera, and victory achieved by the Danish Jorgen Marcussen. In the 44 years that have passed since that day there have only been stage crossings, but the Municipality of Pisa presented its candidacy for a stage finish in 2023, with the hope that the request would be accepted for the following year's edition, or as in fact happened in 2025.

After the Lucca-Pisa stage, the Giro will aim towards Northern Italy and the start of the stage on Wednesday 21 May will take place from Versilia and Viareggio, already involved last year. Even if far from the finish line of Castelnovo ne' Monti in the province of Reggio Emilia, the riders will have to overcome the tough climb towards San Pellegrino in Alpe which has deadly hairpin bends, a real "wall". Three days between Umbria and Tuscany that will surely attract the public of the big occasions, ready to embrace the Giro d'Italia which is always a great show.
