Tour of Switzerland 2025: the seventh stage with altimetry

Neuhausen am Rheinfall, 21 June 2025 – Il Tour of Switzerland 2025 is coming to a close with the last two decisive stages between Saturday and Sunday. In the meantime, in the only stage dedicated to sprinters, one of the favourites prevailed, namely Jordi Meeus, who beat in the sprint in the sixth stage of the Swiss tour the Italian Davide Dancers and the British Lewis askey. The breakaway was caught one kilometer from the finish line, then the sprint on a narrow, semi-curved road rewarded the Belgian, who was able to start at the right time. Nothing happened in terms of the general classification. Kevin vauquelin He is still the leader with 29 seconds on Julian Alaphilippe and 39 on Joao Almeida, while Oscar Onley he is fourth at 1'21” and in the seventh stage scheduled for Saturday there could be the decisive laps. Two short but tough climbs in the finale will allow a battle between the contenders for the yellow jersey.

Timeline

The seventh stage of the Tour of Switzerland is a long one, probably crucial for the overall standings. From Neuhausen am Rheinfall to Emmetten di 207 kilometers and uphill finish. The stage alternates GPM with flat or false flat sections, except in the final part with the climb towards the finish line. The first 100 kilometers are without any major difficulties, going up and down around 600 meters, but the first real obstacle is the GPM of Schwandl of 3 kilometers with an average gradient of 8.9%. Once at the top, there is no descent, instead, the climb continues towards the intermediate sprint at kilometer 125, which precedes a descent of about 15 kilometers that leads to the valley floor that leads to Emmetten. In the last section, two tough climbs. First the Burgenstock of 5.5 kilometers and peaks of 23%, then the final GPM towards Emmetten of 3.9 kilometers at 8.3% and maximums of 18%. Sprinters will be needed.  

Favorites

Tough stage, but not with long climbs. Alaphilippe could be rewarded by the morphology of the route, compared to Almeida, who prefers more large-lap GPMs, and also vauquelin can try to defend itself from rival attacks. Be careful from behind, Onley he is 1'21” behind and could try to shuffle the cards, together with Felix Gall, one of the big favourites but 2'20” behind. Both should attack from afar. For the stage victory, also watch out for Castrillo, Riccitello and Van Wilder.
