Jorgenson: "I want to fight for the Grand Tours"

The American, coming off a 2024 with a clear rise, raises the bar: "I understood that I can do it at the Tour de France. I suffered, but I never collapsed and in the third week I was feeling great"

Rome, 2 January 2025 - In a Visma-Lease a Bike rich in stars, standing out is always complicated, as is finding your own dimension. Despite everything, Matteo Jorgenson is slowly completing both missions, as can be seen from some of the results collected in 2024: above all the victory of the Paris-Nice and Straight through Flanders, not to mention that Dauphiné Tour who took the way of Primois Roglic for a few seconds and of theeighth place al Tour de France (of which a few days ago he died 104 years the longest-serving stage winner, Emile Idea) despite a great deal of work as a gregarious in the service of jonas vingegaard. An excellent score that the American wants to improve on.

Jorgenson's statements

"The best moment of last year was the victory of the Paris-Nice, which I didn't expect and which I will never forget. Just thinking about it still makes me smile. Last season was a dream in many ways: I surpassed limits that I didn't think I could beat and if I did it, it's also thanks to the efforts of the team and my commitment to sticking to the plans". In fact, the Californian has grown a lot lately and if he has done so, apparently, it is also thanks to changes made in training with biomechanical work to improve his pedaling. "It was like I had to forget muscle memory or break that pattern and this made a big difference. I learned to know myself better and now I know what I need to be successful". Great progress that Jorgenson, capable of performing well in both stage and one-day races, hopes to make the most of it in the near future: perhaps as early as 2025. "One day I hope to fight for the general classification of a Great Tour and I say this because this year I changed my perspective. During the Tour de France I didn't have any bad days, apart from a few difficult moments, and I never collapsed. And in the third week I felt even more at ease. So, I want to make this leap in quality when that time comes. I'm in no rush, even if I can't wait for the new season to start: in the meantime we still have work to do".

Van Der Poel's Condition

Moving from road to cyclocross, yesterday at Baal marked visit Mathieu van der Poel due to a rib injury caused by a fall in Loenhout. Despite everything, the Dutchman should be regularly at the start of the Flemish Duinencross Koksijde, scheduled on 3st January. We will know more in the next few hours, even if from home Alpecin-Deceuninck, through Christoph Roodhooft, optimism is professed. "A Loenhout he punctured and hit a pole. We noticed, but he continued and then won even BesançonThese types of accidents take a toll after a few days and in fact the pain increased as the days went by, but there is nothing to worry about on a medical level: the stop was only precautionary".
