Rome, 22 March 2025 – Nervous group and weather nightmare at the Milan-Sanremo 2025, match today from Pavia. It continues to rain incessantly during the race and the weather forecast indicates a risk of rain even during the final stages of the race.
Spring for cycling enthusiasts means only one thing: the classics. And the first one is the Classicissima, which you never know if it will end in a sprint or alone. And that's the beauty of it. It is probably the most spectacular race in the final kilometers. Emotions are guaranteed, not only for the thrilling route in the final part of the race, but also for a group of top-level participants, starting with the phenomena Tadej pogacar e Mathieu Van der Poel. The Slovenian has never won the Sanremo (fifth, fourth and third in the last three years) and wants the first seal of his career, especially in front of the Italian public who loves and adores him, reviving in him the myth of Marco Pantani. The Dutchman won in 2023 and contributed last year to the victory of Philipsen. But watch out for Pippo too Ganna, who came out of the Tirreno-Adriatico with great legs.

The path
La Milan-Sanremo 2025 has started from Pavia and heads north towards Milan, the historic start of the race, and reaches Certosa where it joins the traditional route. The Classicissima is 289 kilometres in total, with some variations. It touches Casteggio and Voghera before a further detour reaching Rivanazzano and Salice Terme to return to the classic route in Tortone. Here the canonical route resumes, touching Ovada and obviously the Passo del Turchino at kilometre 193 of the race. Subsequently, it descends onto Genova-Voltri to follow the Aurelia state road on the sea to cross Varazze, Savona, Albenga and Imperia. Finale with the traditional Capi. It starts with the triptych Apples, Deer and Shearwater, to then arrive at the two iconic climbs of the Sanremo. First the Cipressa which measures 5.6 kilometers with average gradients of 4.1%, maximum attention to a very technical descent, then the knoll, the last springboard to avoid the bunch sprint. With 9 kilometres to go, the breakaway starts 3.7 kilometers to 4% average and peaks of eight percent. The climb is reached 5,4 kilometers from the finish: here too the nose-dive towards Sanremo will be very technical, then the last 2 km on long straights. Noteworthy at 850 m from the finish is a left curve on a roundabout and at 750 m from the finish is the last curve that leads onto the final straight of Via Roma.
Favorites
Two super favorites of the contest. Tadej pogacar wants the first win at Sanremo, he has tried several times but has only just missed success, and Mathieu Van der Poel wants to replicate the victory of 2023 when he triumphed alone on Via Roma, detaching Pogacar, Ganna and Van Aert on the Poggio. The third wheel is obviously Thomas pidcock, coming off a great start to the season with his new team. Italy is banking on Pippo Ganna, who showed great condition at the Tirreno Adriatico and could have the right watts to stay there on the Poggio. Outsiders are Maxim Van gils, Matej Mohoric, winner in 2022, Tim waves and Julian Alaphilippe. Alberto will also be there for the blue colours Bettiol and Julius ciccone. In case of a group sprint, pay maximum attention to Jesper Philipsen, winner 2024 but crashed a few days ago, Jonathan Milan, Mads PedersenMichael Matthews, Olaf kooij, Biniam Girmay and Kaden Groves.
