Rome, 20 March 2025 – First the thrill of yesterday on the occasion of the fall that occurred at Nokere Koerse 2025, won by Nils Eekhoff before Matteo Moschetti, and then today's sigh of relief: the reigning winner Jasper Phillipsen will be present at the Milan-Sanremo 2025.

Philipsen's conditions and declarations

In fact, already late yesterday evening the clouds were clearing from the affair, with the worst consequences, on all the fractures, which had been excluded by the initial findings. However, there remained a big question mark on the Belgian's participation in the Very classic due to severe pain, especially on the right side of the body, to be verified over time. Apparently, apart from some abrasions and some stitches, at home Alpecin-Deceuninck we can breathe a sigh of relief in view of Saturday, as confirmed first of all by a press release. "Jasper is leaving direction Milan and Saturday will be at Milan-Sanremo 2025 to defend the title he won last year: his performance after the fall of nokere".

Then it's up to Philipsen confirm his presence. "The fall obviously had a strong impact on my body. I have a lot of abrasions, some stitches and running will not be easy, but I still want to try. If I don't feel well in the final, I will make myself available to the team: in the meantime, I'm still happy to be at the start of the Milan-Sanremo". Between the lines, the Belgian himself confirms the plan B within theAlpecin-Deceuninck which in reality is perhaps more than one: while waiting for the definitive startlist, the luxury alternatives to the reigning winner should be Mathieu van der Poel e Caden Groves, without forgetting the always valid ones Gianni Vermeersch e Xandro Meurisse.

Matthews' statements

Returning to2024 edition, second place went to Michael Matthews, who is now not satisfied with a past in which he even overtook his friend on the podium Tadej pogacar and for next Saturday he even dreams of a coup that could be worth an entire career. "Perhaps it's the race I like the most, especially because it's unpredictable and suits my characteristics very well. Compared to last year, I'm also in better shape, having had no problems or falls in the last few days. Lately I've done various reconnaissances of the last 50 km and I think I know the route almost metre by metre. We have a strong team, certainly one of the best I've ever had at my disposal in this race". In fact, the Team Jayco AlUla, apart from the Australian expert, will be able to count on the loose cannon Mauro Schmid and also on two blues like Filippo Zana e Davide De Pretto. Just like theAlpecin-Deceuninck, therefore, at the sprint finish there is a clear alternative linked to the actions from afar of more or less fearsome finishers, who will however presumably have to deal with pogacar.
