Sara Piffer, the promising Italian cyclist hit by a car at 19, dies

Trento, 24 January 2025 – The promise of Italian cycling Sarah Piffer she died today at only 19 years old after being hit by a car while riding her bicycle in via Cesare Battisti between Mezzocorona and Mezzolombardo in Trentino. Her brother, who was on another bike, was slightly injured. According to the initial reconstruction, the car accident that hit Sara, an 70 year old, was proceeding in the opposite direction and, while overtaking another vehicle, impacted with Piffer who was thrown to the ground and remained unconscious.
On site, ambulance, Mezzocorona firefighters, Rotaliana local police and the helicopter with the emergency doctor. Sara Piffer was born in Trento on October 7, 2005, was originally from Palu' di Giovo and competed for the Mendelspeck Society.
He had always been on a bicycle and had started competing for the Velo Sport Mezzocorona with good profits. Last year, with Team Mendelspeck Ge-Man she had managed to win in Corridonia, in the Marche region, and in the Trentino time trial in Verla/Maso Roncador she had almost reached the target, finishing in second position. "An excellent road racer and also good on the track, Sara was Italian vice champion of Madison in 2021”, we read on the tuttobiciweb website.
